Fitting ABS?

I've had to as well. But unfortunately it wasn't enough...

Only one of the doves sitting in the road managed to escape, the other was not as lucky :(

i HATE hitting animals, makes me feel like a bad person :( :p

I'd rather have ABS though. I've locked up before and just feeling the car drifting along for those few miliseconds is quite scary! Also the ABS is invaluable if you need to brake hard and swerve.

It would be nice if it actually knew that there was mud/ice/snow/gravel on the road and adapted itself accordingly rather than just giving you a nice foot massage without actually stopping you at all LOL.
Nothing worse, it does it over uneven surfaces too.

roads with poor surfacing can confuse ABS, esp on older cars. ive not been a fan or it at all, i find that most of the time it gets in the way. ive only found it useful maybe once or twice ever.

in the golf, considering its olderthan the moon, the abs is actually quite good. only triggers when really necessary and has a quick reaction between slip and pulsing. come cars will slip, the brakes then come off for what feels like an eternity, then it pulses

Old ABS wasn't very good and could add a fair old percentage to your braking distance compared to just locking up the wheels and was significantly worse than some driving god cadence braking.

On anything but a perfect surface, a modern ABS system can outperform both cadence and flat-spotting the tyres.

ABS is a steering aid. It will increse the overall stopping distance in some circumstances but the benifit will generally outweight the disadvantages etc etc.

As someone else said in another thread if your relying on driver aids to save you its probably too late......

My pupils rarely notice the abs even in an emergency stop as if you do it properly it does'nt kick in.

The whole point of braking is because there's something in front be a car, bend or person. If you've got ABS you can brake and turn out of the way the chances of hitting that object have got to be much less.
