Fitting issues? Sunk spokes

lolrypt

because of course they pull the star rattings out of a hat dont they ?

You know that you cannot get 5 star rating unless you make the car safe for pedestrians in a crash ... how does that help the passengers in any way?
That's right, it doesn't. If you ONLY target ultimate passenger safety you can save weight

Euro NCAP requires you to meet pedestrian safety amongst other pointless things to get a 5 star rating

Going for 18" anyway, dont think the 19 will quite work really. I've been trying to find a match to the wheels below but so many that are right arent being produced anymore, its one of the better matches so far but i think i have to get 5 spoke as the 6 wont fit :(

Project being turning the picture in to reality, not everyones cuppa but its one of the rare ideas that some of my friends actually approve of (they dont really see the point/need to modify heavily)

Looks great. Not using a facelift version though?

If they build a car that is as safe as it needs to be for the passengers, but then only did the legal minimum for pedestrians and other such things they could have a car that is still very safe, but weighs less and costs less.

Usually they replace heavy, hard steel with light, soft plastic.

How would not replacing steel with plastic save weight exactly?

I currently have the GT so will be using that as a base for it, getting a new spoiler and then new wheels to finish it all off, i'll put together a little journal for the whole process when it all gets underway (soon)

Colour patches coming in the post in a few days, once ive got colour sorted its all go.

No it's not.

Occupant safety is an issue because you do lose control if pushing on spiritedly or if something on the car fails.
However, at the places (and speeds) that is likely to occur there will be no pedestrians around.

Pedestrian safety is all about protecting the idiot who steps out in front of your car without looking, which is surplus to my requirements.

Oh, and if NCAP really cared about passenger safety they would force harnesses on occupants.

Won't be surplus to your requirements if you fail to concentrate whilst crossing the road, we are humans after all, not robots. Also, think of the children, they don't know better sometimes and will run out on the road in front of a car.

Just because something is surplus to your requirements, it doesn't mean it isn't a consideration for everyone else.

NCAP ratings have vastly improved the safety of cars and pushed things along, people are waling away from accidents that probably would have killed them in an older car. Is this a bad thing?

I can't quite work out if you're being ignorant or plain thick, maybe a bit of both? Either way, I do not wish to continue this discussion with you.

I have never come close to being run over, and as for children what ever happened to parents keeping a hold of them until they are old enough to know how to not get run over.
I remember when I was a kid, not only did my parents keep a hold of me to prevent me getting run over, but if we were walking around beside a road they would either have me between them or on the side furthest away from the road.
They would ensure that we would only cross AT crossing points (to instil into me that you should do so and not just wander across the road willy-nilly).
And let's not forget the green cross code...

The reason we have a need for all this drastic pedestrian safety is because now nothing is ever YOUR fault, it is suddenly always the other parties fault.
Some bint steps into the road in front of you while you are driving, and in her eyes it is always your fault if you have to emergency brake and use the horn...
