Got a Hyundai i20 and want to put some mud flaps on it. Phoned Hyundai garage and they quoted me £96.40 to do it.

I can buy the parts online for about £40 (geniune) but was wondering if I needed anything special to fit them and if it was easy enough to do myself?

Now obviously it depends on my skill...I don't do any car work myself other than fitting new wipers, changing a wheel, checking/refilling fluids.

I haven't inspected the wheel arches closely but I will do to see if there are pre-drilled holes or clips/whatever that looks like it's for the flaps.

Thanks!

I can't imagine you would need anything other than a screwdriver/spanner but you should probably check to make sure it's pre-drilled first.

I guess that could be another question...

Will they actually do anything noticeable?! The rear windscreen gets covered instantly when there's any water on the road, and the front doors get a lot of spray up the sides. I have to drive through a farm everyday so there's always mud about.

Eyes closed easy.

Always fit mudflaps to my cars - saves the sills/rear bumper from a battering from stones.

On the E30 at least, they're a good trap for mud and stuff which can cause the sills to rust etc, no problem as long as you remember to clean any trapped dirt out when you clean the rest of the car.

I tried to fit some once, there was a 4 mile exlusion zone and radiation for 400 half years afterwards. I guess it depends on your talent.......I have none when it comes to spanners.

The mud flaps on my Octavia do a great job of trapping mud and grime... between the mud flap and body work

The reason the back gets so dirty is because of the flat backed nature of the car and the minimal rear overhang.

On the subject of mud flaps, why don't all 4x4s come with these?
The amount of spray and filth kicked up by RR Sports and the like on wet motorways is ridiculous!

They can't see you behind them and you can barely see in front. Annoying if they're going too slowly in the outside lane...

Fitting mudflaps is really complicated, instructions from FIAT in Turin: "Plant horizontal before definitively shut screws B."

You're probably looking at an hours labour on top of the work just to translate the instructions from Korean English.
