Hi all,

Had a quick question if anyone is able to help!

I have a Samsung HD753LJ 750 GB SATA hard Drive which I would like to fit to my current motherboard. Will it be compatible with my ASUS ACPI x64 motherboard?

ATA/ATAPI IDE controllers.

Thanks!

If you're saying your motherboard only has IDE controllers, and the harddrive is SATA - then no, it won't work without a SATA controller card being installaed.

Hey Darael,

Thanks for the reply!

Does this mean I can buy a SATA controller card, install it and the hard drive will be compatible with my mobo?

It's an Asus m4a785t-m

It has 6 sata ports that motherboard.

Get a sata cable and plug the drive into one of the light blue sata ports. It will work fine, if you will be using it for storage you wont need to change anything in the BIOS, if you want to install windows on it , make sure AHCI if the board supports it is enabled in the BIOS before installing windows, it can make windows work a bit faster in that mode depending on the drive you use.

The user manual for the motherboard is on the ASUS website if you need it , it does explain how to set it up and where to plug in things.

Support page for that motherboard.

Thank you so much for your help!!! So now I need to buy a cable (or maybe i can use the one from my old computer?) and place the hard drive in the motherboard. It is to install windows on it.. Sadly i am not sure what to do in BIO, is it a must?
