Fitting outside socket

Hi all,

I moved into a new build a couple of months ago and want to fit an outside socket. This will be taken from an existing socket in the living room.

I'm competant enough to be able to do this but am wondering if it would fall under part p regs and whether I would have to get somebody in to fit it/sign it off?

Cheers

If you use something like this then no it won't fall under any regulations as it's not classed as fixed wiring - http://www.homebase.co.uk/en/homeba...ocket-kit-and-rcd-plug---2-socket---3m-910640

Edit: Actually coming to think of it it doesn't need any notification anyway as it's just an extension to an existing circuit circuit so you can do what you want. This list tells you what is and isn't notifiable - http://www.elecsa.co.uk/Documents/Public-Documents/Contractors/Notifiable-Work-in-England-2013.aspx

:)

Thanks guys.

I'm still massively confused about this. I was under the impression that because it's outside it's classed as notifiable whether it's a new circuit or existing. Nothing seems to be 100% clear.

The socket I want to take the spur off is on the opposite side of the wall, how much do you think an electrician would charge for this?

It's definitely not notifiable, it was once but Amendment 2 (I think it was) changed that along with a load of stuff which no longer needs to be notified, see the pdf I linked to above.
As it's a new build the sockets will be RCD protected already and if you want the socket on the exterior wall directly behind the interior one it will take no more than an hour to do so whatever that rate is in your area.

Depends where you live, how hard it is to get the cable from the existing inside socket to the outside, what quality of finish you want, what quality of accessories (outside socket) you want.

All depends and can range drastically :)

Call one up and get him to come around and give a quote, or phone a few and get a few prices.
