I've searched and looked for a sticky but couldn't find anything. Searching for guides brings up half of it asking you to pay for it

I've fixed XBox's before, but I've forgotten a part of it. Here's what I've done so far:

- Stripped XBox down
- Removed X-Clamps
- Cleaned CPU and GPU with Acetone

I know next I need to:

- Add thin layer of compound
- Put Heat sinks back on and do them up finger tight (using replacement bolts and washers (not nylon ones))

Now this is where I'm stuck. I remember you put the board back in the case, etc, leave the covers off, turn on with all cables connected and rest fan over one of the heatsinks (can't remember which one). You leave it on for a few minutes (don't know how many) and wait for a certain light to come on? Please help! If it works I'm going out to buy F1 2010 :)

Left it on for 45 mins with the fan over the CPU, then turned off till today. Powered on, all seemed good so I went out and bought F1 2011.

Got everything ready, Wheel stand Pro, XBox wheel, chair etc and as I sit down, it 3RLOD on me. :(

FFS! What am I looking at for a new 360S with the 250GB hard drive? Can only seem to find it with Kinnect and/or games. I just want the Console and maybe a wireless controller.

You remembered to properly tighten the bolts after `cooking` the cpu and gpu didn`t you?
Also I just disconnect the fan,`cooks` better that way
Or get the xecuter RROD repair kit ,has a few mem squishy pads and 2 heatsinks for anna chips

Failing that try the members market :)

I always do the oven-bake trick. Always seems to last longer than the x-clamp fix alone, but TBH these things are hit and miss. I've done literally hundreds, all using the exact same technique and screws/washers, and whilst the majority are still going strong, some only last a matter of weeks.

The only way to fix it for sure is to reball the GPU and sometimes the CPU too with some leaded solder balls (and the HANA scaler if you have a hdmi model with colour corruption/no video). Anything else is a bodge really, although you may get lucky it will happen again at some point.

It is hit and miss I did a 360 that had RROD in the oven and it lasted 2 months after being used for 2-3 hours+ a day.

Another thing people will say "did it a year ago and it's still going strong" but what they don't tell you is that they have only used the console for about 10hours in that period, so going off what people say is also misleading.

One of the high street places is offering

Gears of War edition XBox 360S with 320GB HD, GOW, Crisis 2 and 2 Wireless pads. Seems a good deal?

Or I could buy a XBox 360S 250GB HDD preowned for £149.

Hmmm....
