Speed excessive for conditions + traffic.

Examiner asked what was the speed limit as I was driving along, to which I replied 30mph. I was probably doing about 28/29 on the speedo. He said I was speeding, I bit my tongue.

It was one helleva tough driving test, I must have been in the car about 5 minutes. Drive around the block, 3-point turn and parallel park. Good job I passed :D

I did have to laugh at a girl a couple of cars ahead of me. She failed before she'd moved 10 yards. Pulled out from the kerb without checking her mirror and caused a car to swerve. Impressive FAIL I thought.

So now I need my first car, I was thinking Micra, or Corsa...oh wait ;)

Nice one :)

I got a Minor for..

" Hitting the ABS Brakes too hard and fast

Ok... But the car had / has ABS Brakes !!

I also got one for

" Changing gear on a roundabout "

Which annoyed me because the exit he asked me to take was going uphill and the car would have struggled :(

I remember my first test. I failed due to speeding, god I was gutted. Only 5 minors too I thought i went really well. Seems ages ago now though

how many lessons have you all had as my dads being an idiot and booking me in for another 10 hours which would make it 22 hours in total, and probably nearly £500 in lessons and tests

I had 30 hours from start to finish, i'd not stepped in a car before and then passed with 3 minors, but tbh the last 5 hours were a bit useless it was just confidence with the car (even though during lessons i had my own car and must have driven well over 500 miles). Ah well. Driving over a year now, no incidents, touch wood.

Don't call him an idiot, driving is serious business and if he wants to be confident that you've got an acceptable level then he's doing the right thing. If you don't have more lessons then go out (INSURED) in the car with him as much as you can, nothing is better than experience. Unless you're pretty damn good, 12 hours of driving lessons is peanuts from scratch, and you'll always think you're better than you actually are. What woiuld you prefer, two more lessons or a failed test? Rinse, repeat

So you officially a US citizen now? When we going to see you home Jon?
Not at all, you're just supposed to obtain a license after 6 months as a resident, I'm running slightly behind schedule.

I'm still finding it funny that after 12 years of driving with a perfect record, never stopped by the Police, never caught speeding, that while taking a driving test the examiner notes that I was speeding (I wasn't!) on the pass notice. His notes were all electronic, it prints out a receipt at the end which is your temporary license until the proper one arrives in the post. On the receipt it states his note, "Speed excessive for conditions traffic".

edit: To the guy complaining about too many lessons, see my original post. A girl didn't even get to drive her test because as she went to pull away from the kerb another vehicle was passing and had to swerve. The examiner ended her test right there. You can never be too ready.

They made you resit your test?

When I moved over here to Oz I walked into the dvla to book mine and the guy behind the desk goes:

DVLAman: "Oh you're from the UK? Got a UK license?"
Me: "Yup, here ya go all shiney and pink"
DVLAman: "Stand here please"
Me: "Umm ok" (thinking I'm in some kind of trouble)
DVLAman: "Here's your Oz license sir that'll be $100"
Me: "Sweet!"

My girlfriend was a bit gutted though. She passed her test a year ago in the UK so she had to have P plates for 2 years over here. hehehe

I almost failed mine, didn't come to a complete stop when turning right at a red light. Was ok though, the guy knew I could already drive!

Being a bit pedantic here but since it seems to have been glossed over...

30mph is a limit, doesn't mean it's necessarily appropriate to do 30mph everywhere. "Speed excessive for conditions + traffic" means just that - the examiner thought you were going too fast for the prevailing conditions & traffic. I'm pretty sure if I went around a tight corner at 30mph even though I wouldn't be breaking any speeding laws it would be deemed reckless.

Food for thought.
