What does it actually do apart from heat the stuff up?

Surely it would only burn most of the alcohol away making the drink less strong?

Also how long do I leave it burning?

As far as i know it burns most of the alcohol away?
Only good way to do it is hold it in your mouth, light, then quickly swallow or just neck the shot then do gas chambers, they seemed to have an affect on me when i last did them, but then that could have just been the number of shot i was necking :D

Google search Flaming Sambucas, 3rd link down. :D:D:D

Yeah, I was in spain and I did a shot of something. The guy had it in a tall glass, lit it then put his hand on the top. Then he made me breathe the fumes in then take the shot, not really sure what affect it had.

What does it actually do apart from heat the stuff up? Doesn't really do anything....it just looks cool!

Surely it would only burn most of the alcohol away making the drink less strong? Correct

Also how long do I leave it burning? Just light it and shoot it.

What about breathing the fumes? Or would it just have the same affect because you drank it on fire?

the alcohol gets absorbed in though your lungs, much quicker into your bloodstream.

the whole point in them relay.

the light in you mouth trick, its just gets chicks.

See my post. There more then one to do it but its known as a gas chamber. We do it by just necking the shot then turn the glass upside down on the bar. Stick a lighter under it then just do circles on the bar until the flame inside has gone out then get a straw under it and suck, seems to work well

Another technique is to pour a shot of Sambuca into a wine glass, and then to light it, swirling the shot continuously. Pour it into the original shot glass, then cover with the wine glass to extinguish the flame, remove the wine glass but still keep it upside-down. Take the shot, then, using a straw, suck out the alcohol fumes of the wine glass, allowing you to fully taste Sambuca. This is similar to a drink where Blue Bols is mixed with Sambuca, all the steps above are followed but after the fumes are sucked out of the wine glass, the last drop of the mix is poured onto the base of the wine glass and then snorted up the nose with a small straw.

C2H5OH + 3 O2 → 2 CO2 + 3 H2O

Therefore your inhaling CO2, water vapour and air while the actually alcohol burns away.

Surely I'm not being stupid in thinking lighting alcoholic drinks is just actually wasteful and pointless other than a show?

All this time and sambuca is actually the same thing as pure ethanol!?

Sorry but thats what the discussion involves.. the alcohol itself.

One of the original questions being:

Surely it would only burn most of the alcohol away making the drink less strong?

I've read that it's alcohol vapours in the gas

We're going to put a shot glass on a plate and pour sambuca in it until it over flows. We shall then light it, drink it through a straw then put a glass over it and slowly lower it until it goes out. Finally breathing everything in the glass using a straw. Should be interesting!

I'd love to try, i've necked a pint of vodka before, necked it, gagged and coughed and then fell into my seat with watering eyes. I felt great 5 minutes later.
Dunno if I could do it flaming though.
