Hi, ive just been given a cobra 700AF flash gun, and a nikon sb-18 flash gun. I know theyre old, but was wondering if anyone knew if they would work (in manual mode) on my D70. I know d70s take iTTL flash units but ive found conflicting reports via google that these flashes will work, but i dont want to fry the electronics on my camera. Please help.
thanks

You need to measure the trigger voltage of the flashgun. Ideally under 5V to be safe, alternatively have a look here http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html

Try it at your own risk though! Apart from the trigger voltage I'm not sure whether the pins on the flash mount will be compatible?

FWIW I'm having pretty reasonable results with a £12 auction site Centon F95 flash. Bounce and swivel, only manual mode but can't complain for £12!

hehe, i darnt try it to be honest. The pins on the flash mount are exactly the same as the pins on the hotshoe, so i presume theyd be compatible in that way. But it aint worth blowing my camera just for the sake of a cheap flash i dont think.

i guess he ment the pins may be in a different order rather than palced in a differnet place so may still cause damage.
