Hi all

I just got my radio flash triggers and hooked them up to my YN 560 and my SB24 with my D40. And they are seriously cool.

However, I find I could probably do with a stand or 2 to hold the flash unit. Any recommendations - Do i probably need umbrella/softbox as well? I cant seem to find anything that is less than about 30 quid, which seems quite a lot to me as I just want to experiment, I dont need this for pro use or anything.

the auction place is very handy for budget stuff..

konig light stands can be had for under £20 each if i remember rightly, i picked up my brollies for £5 each (2 shot through and 2 reflective) from HK and the brolly and flash swivel brackets for again about £5 each

Do you have links for the brolleys and brackets you bought?

:)

After I get paid I'm going to but a couple of konig stands.

I got some brolly/bracket and stands a few weeks ago. I asked the same question on another forum and I was suggested that spending more on the bracket (and I agree. it is the one part that has the most tension with the brolly and stand so it really should be all metal.

It's actually a rebranded Manfrotto bracket.

As for stands

I went a little overboard lol

I got these

It seems expensive but when I compare it to my Manfrotto Tripod, the Bowen Stands is REALLY well made, considering it is 1/4 of the price of my tripod.

obviously you don't need to spend this much but I intend for them to last. It's up to you how much you want to spend :)

I got 2 calumet branded one with removable covers, about £35 each, really big ones. The cost really add up though when you get 2 of each, i ended up spending £200!

I have a cheapy from amazon and a slightly more expensive version from jessops (interfit).

Both do there job but the footpring of the cheapy is so small any breeze will blown them over unless weighted.

Raymond, those umbrella adapters you bought, did you need to buy anything else to mount the Speedlite (hotshoe adapter) is it all included?

I put the flash on a remote trigger which at the bottom has the ½ inch hole for the screw, which you will need. If you don't use the trigger then you would need a little adaptor for the bracket.

this probably doesn't help but I bought a mini tripod* (about 10cm tall) from poundland which I put my flash on when I need to do a macro shot or something with off camera flash using a yongnuo trigger. I can put it on a table, desk, rest it on the ground or whatever.

Don't think it would cope very well with an umbrella though :p

* actually my girlfriend bought me one a few months before, but it wasn't that stable, and it broke. I went back to have a look and they'd updated it with a much sturdier model with a ball head, which I bought.

Thanks, yeah I did see the ones with the hotshoe adapter. Funnily enough my line of buying and searching has followed your own. I have been googling and looking at the Lastolite set up and doing so found your thread on TP :D

Settled on the adapter now and the brolleys, going to go for either 36 or 40 inch brolleys, the calmet adapter with the hotshoe attachment.

Just stands to decide on, whether to go for the lightweight koniq ones as it's going to be mainly indoor lighting with my family/friends or spend more for some height adjustment like the interfit air damped ones for £19.99 currently reduced at a high street camera store.

Well, I always follow the theory that you buy cheap you buy twice so I spent like £15 more and got a better stand (Bowen) which will last and last.

All ordered, only have one flash currently but doubled up for when I can afford a second.

Got the interfit air damped stands as they are on offer so £19.99 each.

2x 42inch wescott brolleys with removable covers £22 each

And the 2 calumet adapters you linked but I got the ones with hotshoe adapters so £21.50 each. (sadly currently out of stock)

£133 all in I think inc postage. Looking forward to playing now :)

I bought some cheap stuff as well, 2x stands for £22 and 2x 33" white shoot through umbrellas with removable reflector for £18. I only have a small room so any bigger wouldn't work. The stands if looked after should last for ages, the brollies will probably break with the constant removal of the cover, but they're ok so far... I had already picked up some brackets when I bought a pair 430EZ flashes on the cheap. All with RF602 receivers and triggers.

For the amount of use it gets I wouldn't want to have spent much more to be honest!

No I didn't go nuts either. I was recommended 42inch for indoors on TP. If they are far too big I will get the 36". I think they should be ok though.

Where di you get the 33 inch ones from ebay?

I need to get a set of wireless triggers but for now I will make do with the 10m etl cord I have as I'm using one flash at the moment.
