Flash lights to get others to move over?

It doesn't matter if you're doing 60 or 120, if someone is behind you - move over, simples.

The way I see it, it doesn't matter if there is someone behind me. I'f I'm making decent progress past the cars to my left then I'm well within my rights to be in that lane irrespective of speed.

ffs what is wrong with you people, you shouldnt be going slow enough for people to catch up with you in the first place :(

That is the thing though, if you're doing 90MPH, then by all means, wait for a decent gap - just make sure you take that gap and let the person behind go, I wouldn't expect you to so down significantly to let me go.

The issue is mostly people who sit at 70 thinking "I'm doing the speed limit, I don't need to let you go".

The other thing that grinds me is people who think these flashers are dangerous, but seek to wind them up more (by lifting off etc.).

Yeah I'm a real loser for cruising at 80 on the motorway :(

This is the problem some are seeming to grasp here....I can do the same & still get ***** up my backside, but the fact someone is up you backside seems to give some here the impression you're going slow??? Or that you're hogging a lane as opposed to overtaking at a decent speed?

Regardless of whether the flasher is in the wrong or not, why would you antagonise them potentially making them more 'dangerous'?

Only every happened to me once but I wish it every time...

When someone overtakes you, clearly a speeding baby killer, then you come round a corner and they are being pulled in by a copper with a radar gun, only happened once, and a little toot toot as I went past (just to let him know I was there)

I just indicate right, and make sure I'm as far over to the right as possible.

This seems to be the 'friendlier' way to indicate to someone that you'd like to overtake, seeing this quite a bit these days. (As opposed to flashing which used to be prevalent but does get people's backs up)

Very well said, I do this and wont move over till im not going to over take any more people.

Flashing lights to make someone move over makes me want to stay in the lane even more.

I'd feel sorry for the bloke.

Is it some sort of inferiority complex that drives you to hate everyone who wants to travel faster than you? Is it you that flashes me or speeds up when I overtake on a perfectly straight A/B road?

To be fair though if Mr 70 mph is passing a string of cars doing 60 mph he shouldn't really be expected to duck and dive in and out of the traffic changing speed constantly to let others past. In my opinion at least.

For me a single flash is a sign that they want to get past. Fair enough but the only reason I'm in the outside lane is because I'm doing an overtake myself which is why it is a pointless thing to do (in my case at least as I don't lane hog for the sake of it). It is when this then becomes a game of "look how close I can get to your rear bumper" that I get annoyed. Even then it is rare for me to engage in a game of "70 to ### in how many seconds?" top trumps.

That isn't my issue, my issue is when they refuse to move over, even when there is a gap to their left. But if you have to slow down for 5 seconds just to get rid of the arse behind you, then why not? Even I do it, and I rarely travel slow on the motorway :)

If I've managed to undertake them, they were doing something very wrong.

If you stay where you are and let mr flasher keep flashing then at least you know where your danger is, they are never going to ram you, if you move over to let him pass you have made several manouvers that all carry risk, it's like the middle lane hoggers on a empty motorway, fine stay there but I'm making 5 manouvers to overtake you when it should only be 3
