I've installed the latest Ubuntu release (8.10) on my laptop, and trying to view any flash content (Flash v10 and Firefox 3) like youtube or iplayer is like poking myself in the eye with a fork - video is jerky, audio is out of sync and full screen video turns into a slideshow. Content like this was perfect in Windows XP.

I've not fiddled with any of the graphics drivers and I downloaded flash direct from adobe (as opposed to using a special ubuntu version which I think you can get).

Anyone have any experience with this?

I ended up using a really wierd combination of flash players in Jaunty (beta). I think I had the non-free Adobe version from the repositories (set to allow multiverse) plus some (all??) of the GNU ones in combination before it worked properly. Totally weird really... However I do have full Flash support in M. Firefox 3.xx so I guess I'm happy!!

I think (from memory) I had similar issues in Intrepid.

BTW I do have the latest Nvidia propitiatory drivers installed for the GPU (9500M) in the laptop I am using... I wouldn't expect to get any decent video playback until I had done this.

You need graphics drivers installed to get decent performance. 64-bit flash 10 from the repos is excellent. It's as good as or better than flash on other platforms, at least in my experience.

Try uninstalling your Windows graphics drivers and seeing how Flash performance is. ;)

try right clicking on a flash vid, go into settings and check "enable hardware acceleration"
Works great for me out of the box on Mint 6.
Only issue i have is that embedded youtube vids tend to flicker a bit between the video and the bit that comes up at the end of the video to suggest other vids, but it works fine if i click the embed and view it on the proper youtube page. I assume the issue lies with resizing.
