hello

i have a 16GB flash stick but it wont put big single files on it (trying with a 4.2GB file now but its saying something about it being to big to be put on)

what kind of stick do i need to be looking at so i can put big single files on? dont want something what costs a fortune... its only for PS3

thanks

You need to format it to a filesystem that can handle large single files. As far as I know, most Windows systems will format it to FAT which has problems dealing with files over 4GB (at least, that's what I've come to understand reading about the problem). But if you do format it to a different filesystem, it has to be one that the device you're plugging it into can read. And most only read FAT. Because everything is Windows and the most common and supported. Or something to that effect.

From wikipedia:::

The maximum possible size for a file on a FAT32 volume is 4 GiB minus 1 byte (232−1 bytes). Video applications, large databases, and some other software easily exceed this limit. Larger files require another formatting type such as NTFS.

ah, thanks for that mate... tried formatting it to NTFS but the ps3 doesn't recognise the flash stick then.

i know next question should be in software section but may as well ask it here... is there any programs what split a file in half with out changing anything? tried a few free programs but they were all useless, messed up the video quality.... so just a straight chop with out interfering/converting the quality

thanks

What kind of file? If these are mkv files you can use mkvtoolnix. If mp4 you may be able to use mp4 box (but i have no experience of this I just know it is similar to mkvtoolnix for mp4 files).
