hi all, iv got one of these packages which comes with the psd docs and html files to design myself a website.
i need a small bit of help with the link buttons in the flash header.
it comes with a text doc where i can alter the text in the link buttons. and iv followed the instructions to get the links to work to the other pages but when i preview in dreamweaver they arent working. can anyone advise/help me out.im meant to replace the# with the full http ie

For example: when your site visitors click on menu button 1 and you want them to be taken to an About Us page in your web site:
1. locate in the .txt file the &url1=#
2. replace the # with your page's actual URL, including the full pathway.

Your modified link for button 1 will read: &url1=http://www.yoursite.com/aboutus.html

COMPANY NAME&slogan=SLOGAN GOES HERE&phrase=www.companyname.com&button1=PRODUCTS&button2=PROMO&button3=SERVICES&button4=STORES&button5=GALLERY&button6=CATALOGS&button7=HOME&rep=replay&url1=#&url2=#&url3=#&url4=#&url5=#&url6=#&url7=#&iurl1=#&iurl2=#&iurl3=&enddata=1

cheers

I would suggest these three things...

1. Try it in a proper browser preview in dreamweaver isn't really proper, try it in IE, Firefox or some thing like that.

2. Ask the person who you got/bought it from how as they made it they should be able to provide support

3. Upload the template so we can have a play to work out what is the problem.

i wonder if theres a special character in the txt file..
basic info and URL Encoding table:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14143&sliceId=2
a handy URL Decoder/Encoder:
http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/dencoder/

if it's a paid for jobbie, then really the flash file should be pretty sound, the error is most likley in the txt file.. but it could be something else, the problem with txt files is that sometimes they get loaded from the users cache even if the txt file on the host has been updated. to avoid such, some flash devs use an anti-cache parameter: my.txt?<randomNumbers> but problem with this method is it won't preview from the harddrive, it has to be viewed through an http to work. if that method was used, it would be in the readme i'd have thought.

plan a: check the txt file contents for errors.
if that fails:
plan b: view it while hosted on a webserver.
if that fails:
plan c: contact the dev/publisher for support.
if that fails:
plan d: come back here and i'll/we'll have a look further.

edit:

try this tip first, i don't use DW so it could just be that.

which buttons did you do? only Home does anything for me, chances are you done Home.. in which case it's working fine :)

here i am asking a question but i got some things to do, so i'll be away for a few hours. although i'll check back later, just incase there is any problem still.

Ok I don't thin your understanding how this works, the flash header reads the text file you have to edit the text file. If you are unsure as to how you should edit it tell me what menu items and links to the pages you want and I will edit it for you but its quite simple just edit the text in that file to your preferences, if you only want 3 buttons leave the others empty.
