Hi,

So I have followed the instructions from the OP in the 5870 flash sticky exactly. I have 2 xfx 5870s in crossfire that I have flashed individually but when it comes time to overclock them past the 900/1300 limit it is still capped. :confused: On top of that games have now started to crash my computer with blackscreens, requiring a system reboot. :(

Does anyone still have the bios still on their computer just in case the one i downloaded is corrupt? (had to download from one of the links mentioned later in the thread as the OP link had been taken down).

Hope you can help me trouble shoot what i have done wrong. Thanks!

Andy.

xfx 5870

Im using msi after burner.

Doesnt changing that setting in the msi config file make the ati power management software turn off? making it running at full clocks even in 2d? I can set the clock speed above 900/1300 but when i click apply it just jumps back down to the original setting.

My main issue is with games crashing now :( games that ran fine before the flash now freeze/black screen and require a system reboot. I have probably done something wrong but i dont know what it could be following the instructions word for word. :(

Why did you need to flash them? now that you have stability problems. Wasn't there enough speed for two 5870's without tampering?

flash

Im mainly just overclocking them for the sake of it.

I have managed to fix the issue but not by doing anything specific lol. I flashed to my backed up bios (that started showing some weird green pixels on black parts of the screen) and then reflashed it with the ASUS bios from the sticky. All of a sudden it started to work without changing anything in the process :S

Appears the stabillity issues are back :( Would a reference BIOS on a non-reference card cause these problems? Dont really know what could be the problem as if i had broken the card i wouldnt be able to even load games surely?

Would suck that the card flash was just a coincidence and the card was faulty to begin with...

firstly what did you change in afterburners config file? my brother had to add a disclaimer for it to work, the changing the 0 to a 1 didn't work on its own.

are you leaving afterburner running while playing games? try turning it off before playing,

I haven't tried touching the config file yet as I read it affected the ati power play. You think I should try it?

Nope I dont have it running in background. Only thing I have in background is CCC as most of the time I just load games straight from boot. I usually can play a game for around 10minutes before it locks up and I need to force shutdown the computer.

It's annoying that there is no way for me to trouble shoot this. The best I can think of is to keep flashing it with different BIOS's until games stops crashing :/ I dont even care about overclocking them anymore lol.

afterburner wont overclock the card as it's not an msi card until you edit the config file.

C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner\MSIAfterburner.cfg

theres a bit in that file that looks like this, you have to change the value of the bold entry to a 1, if that wont work like it never on my brothers card then you have to enter a disclaimer in the EULA section, i'll post that when i find it :)

[ATIADLHAL]
UnofficialOverclockingEULA =
UnofficialOverclockingMode = 0
AccessibilityCheckingPeriod = 0

you might want to go back to your original bios too to fix the crashes.

no problem, i found the EULA bit too incase you need that.

UnofficialOverclockingEULA = I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it

Ill probably have to wait until i sort the crashes out before i overclock. Dont want to overclock an already unstable card haha xD

I wish I was just happy with the 2 cards XF stock and didnt flash them :( you live and learn eh? :P

Wait what, you flashed none reference cards with reference BIOS's?
That would cause a problem..

Uh oh, what kind of problem would it be? A "Oh god you fool you've broken your card." problem or a problem that i could recover from? I believe the xfx 5870 I have is a non-reference design. Im guessing the ASUS bios you use to flash is reference? :( God im an idiot, to think I work with computers....

What will make this tougher is the fact the usb stick that i had my backed up original bios on has now been reformatted... I borrowed it off a friend and he took it back without telling me....
