Driving today I spotted a camera up ahead, put my foot on the break and slowed to just under 30, crawled past the camera at spot on 30 but as I was getting into the distance the thing flashed, I panicked, double checked the speedo which said 31-32 maximum.

As I said, I was quite into the distance yet still in reach however there was 2 other cars going past it, which looked relatively slow imo.

Would it flash for even 32mph?

Also clocked one on my way home, which I didn't see! Really worried incase I was over the limit with that one too. Just been in a terrible day in the car.

no chance, it probably wont flash at anything less than 34 - 35 real speed, which on your speedo would be 36-37, it wasnt you who got flashed.

O rly, did the paper say he got done for 31mph? because if it did that's a new level of asshattery.

I've never been flashed anywhere and I'm always a shade over the limit pretty much but not "speeding" so to speak.

Cars on the other side of the road will set off the Gatso if they are speeding but no-one will get caught. It might register the other cars speed and show your car in the picture though so be sure to check the distance travelled yourself between the two photos in case you need to dispute it.

I heard that Newcastle-upon-Tyne and it's surrounding areas were doing zero tolerance a few years back and would try and get you for doing 31. I don't think they are still doing it though as the equipment really isn't accurate enough for that.

Op is in Glasgow though, and they're not doing zero tolerance.

Not necessarily true. They fined my Mum £60 and 3 points for going 33mph in a 30 zone. I know she could have appealed and probably won quite easily, but she didn't know that at the time/didn't want the hassle.

Confused.
Why do you think your mum could have appealed and won quite easily?
She was flashed going over the speed limit.
At 33mph her speedo would have been showing 37-38.
So why do you think she would easily win an appeal?

I got flashed doin about 28 in a 30 and can only think that it went off because of the Astra in the opposite lane (wasnt shifting particularly fast but doin over 30 definitely).

Unsure as to whether these cameras would be activated by that though.

I make it flash driving towards them on people driving past it. Funny to see there reactions. You probably got done by someone like me.

The one on the dual carridgeway between Box and Bath is good for this. Somehow it will pick up people in the fast lane going the other way (3 lanes and a central barrier away) So you can hammer it along there at 70 (its a 50, I have no idea why) and it will set it off, which messes with everyone on the other side :)

When you do go through a speeding camera, what is the normal time to expect a ticket less than a week?
