Just having a bit of a debate and was just wondering what other peoples opinions were.

We all know the reaons why companies use 99p prices (£4.99 as oppose to £5) but what do you prefer and why? I'm guessing everyone's gonna say flat prices as no-one here falls for the 99p psychology etc but honestly do you think it works?

Maybe a don could do a poll please?

Thanks

Edit - err could this be moved to GD please? :o

i prefer neither. An odd amount like .23 says to me that the company has tried its hardest to pass the best price onto the customer.

Actually to me that says the company is simply working on "Cost plus" pricing", rather than market pricing

They have taken their buying-in price and simply added their aspired profit margin %, and come up with some odd figure.

Just another way of looking at it I suppose.

^6 That's true, however if said price is cheaper/cheaper to begin with then I like that.....obviously :p

Didn't all the clothes retailers shift to flat pricing and make a fair few £££ from all the 1p increments on the transactions?

An old couple were on TV about 2 weeks ago they collected 1p's & 2p's off the street what they found in 26 years.
They donated it to charity.

£266,000

Watch the pennies and the £'s look after themselves I was taught.

If paying cash then, I prefer flat prices since I don't want a wallet full of 1p pieces or even worse 2p pieces. On the credit card, the lower the price the better, during the month they are just numbers but at the end of the month come payment day less is most definitely more...

indeed.

lets all remember we live in england and its not like any company is rounding down a penny to lower the first didget. they are all rounding up to hit the 99p point.

Point of fact. we just had a reduction on VAT. do you still see all those items at *.99p? ofcourse you do.

Makes me want to do buisness direct with American retailers.

they didnt personally collect all the money though, they had loads of people who collected and donated coppers to them because they know its for charity

Bloody well hope so, I did the maths :p assuming all 2p coins, that's 500,000 per year.. or, 1,500 2p coins per day. Sucks to be them, I hope they had a nice life before they started collecting coppers! :o
