Flat owners, advice please

Did they not put the correct Underlay down?

I put a 12mm underlay in my house under the laminate its OTT but at least nothing can be heard, Then again it was on a concrete floor...!
 
I would say that you cannot use your sound system in a flat. If you want to have music blaring out then you need a detached property.
I highly doubt moving in then waiting to see if neighbours complain is a good thing.

For all you know the neighbours work nights, or have a small child that goes to bed at 7pm. Being partially deaf in one ear is not an excuse.
Buy some headphones or stick to detached properties.

I really hope you are not me neighbour one day!!

We are talking a bit of soundproofing so that the TV and covnersations cannot be heard between flats. The OP has a blaring bass that will shake the floors.

I am genuinely suprised that people think it is OK to have loud music and/or movies on in densely populated housing i.e. flats.
 
Decent speaker isolation and maybe bass traps?
Make sure you don't make too much noise at silly times (between 10pm and 8am).
Try and get on good terms with neighbours from day 1?

Pretty much all you can do without turning it down or sacrificing a decent AV setup.

What experience do you have of living in a flat?

A well build concrete floor flat will transmit minimum bass to the flat below.

Anyways, I will see how the viewings go tonight. The place I linked earlier looks great for the price. If I can knock it down to £650 I will probably take it. Detatched bungalow, which is normally what I go for :)

Cheers for the advice on the sound proofing. And yea, generally don't play stuff past 10pm anyway as I have work silly hours in the morning lol.

Oh, as for the troll. Please read the thread and respond with only the experiance you have to contribute to the original questions and discussions at hand...

One of the flats I've lived it... the neighbours used to have very loud parties every other night... you could hear it in the hallway - but close the door and the noise was gone - completely!

It all depends on the flat... I'd carry on as normal and see if anyone makes a fuss.

Don't be silly - live in a well constructed flat and it will never bother anyone!

My 500W Kef sub was inaudible to the neighbours to the side or below... and it wasn't set low ;)

The ones to the side regularly had parties & I couldn't hear them! Not just tolerable volume... could not hear a thing.

It all depends on the flat - just because you live in one with paper walls, doesn't mean the rest of us have!

I've lived in two flats & they were both very well built... it was one of my main concerns when moving in as I'd previously lived in a paper-floored house share where the woman above me could hear anything... even my headphones some times - it was a nightmare.. I HATE headphones & shouldn't be subjected to them when living in my own accomodation.

£650 for a detached bungalow!? Nice!

I'm sick of paying £900/rent and £300 council tax :(

(detached 3 bed that isn't all that big or well decorated)


BTW... if any neighbours do give you trouble, they only have a right to quiet from 11pm->7am... of course it's not great to go down a route like that, but it's well worth researching the rules :)
