I bought some flaxseed oil capsules the other day from the supplement shop in town when I was buying some whey protein. I've read on here a few times that it's a useful supplement so I bought some, 135 1000mg caps for £6. I thought it would be a "one a day" type of thing but then when I ready the bottle it says 1-6 capsules per day. How many of these should I be taking and do I still need to take cod liver oils with these as well?

Thanks :)

i think flax is omega 3 so there shouldn't be a need to take fish oil as well.

6 a day sounds about right, 2 with breakfast 2 midafternoon 2 with supper.

Do the cod liver tablets you take have vitamin A + D?

Yes they do.

depends on whole diet and other amounts of fat in your diet

I try to eat pretty cleanly, this is a typical day of what I eat:

Breakfast - 45g Porridge with skimmed milk
If I go to the gym I then have a post-workout shake with 50g whey and 50g fine oats mixed with water.
Snack - banana or apple. Muller Light yogurt
Lunch - tuna or chicken green salad (peppers, cucumber, salad leaves) with a little light mayo, pine nuts and a few walnuts.
Snack - banana or apple
Dinner - Chicken, beef or fish (usually salmon) with vegetables (brocolli, cauliflower, carrots, a few small potatoes)
Before bed - Protein shake, 50g whey with water.

Throughout the day I try to drink about 3 litres of water. Also have about3-4 cups of tea or coffeee with skimmed milk.

If I aren't going to the gym I drop the post workout shake but still have the one in the evening. I'm also taking creatine and cod liver oil capsules which I have in the morning daily at breakfast time.

I take flax seed powder every evening. Used to take it morning and evening but had an "adverse effect" on output of my intestines ;) Now have fish oils in the morning, flax in the evening

Flax can't hold a candle to fish oil, it's so inferior it's not even in the same league. I'm going off memory here so could be wrong but you'd need something like 20g of flax for the same amount of EPA/DHA from 1g fish oil.

Yes they do mate. I wouldn't take more than 1 a day of those.

Depending on bodyweight you should be aiming for about 6g-10g of Omega-3 per day. More if you're a big fella.

I think flax oil is inferior to flaxseed powder and it's also more expensive. I buy 500g of organic flaxseed powder from Tesco for just £4.99. Tastes great in a shake and is 25% fibre. I usually have anywhere from 10g-25g per day.
