'Flexi' spanners vs solid spanner

removing door handles is the only time I ever needed one. I could have stripped the door and done it that way but it was much quicker and easier to use a flexible spanner.

I've got them, they're very good at what they do but I would only want them in addition to a normal set of spanners, not instead of. They are sturdy enough and I don't have any doubts about the joints.

They are good for the odd fiddly job but thats about it. I wouldn't use one if i needed a spanner and had to use force. Too much risk of it "folding" and ending up with grazed knuckles :(

I've got the second set, had them a few years now, they are a godsend in hard to reach places.
They've taken serious stick too without a hicup :)

Flexi ratchet spanners was the best money I ever spent on tools they beat solid spanners for 9/10 jobs pretty easily.

Agreed. I have a set of fixed and flexi head rachet spanners, but when I'm working on my car I grab the flexi rachet spanners and a set of standard combination spanners and that deals with 99.9% of jobs.

You need both really.

The flexi ones are fantastic for the odd awkward nut/bolt, but will annoy the hell out of you the rest of the time.

Both.

A set of solid spanners for day-to-day use, and a set of flexi-head only for when you actually need them.

That way, you're less likely to damage the flexi-head ones in normal use.

Also - make sure you've got a set of non-ratchet ones too. Use these to crack them off, then swap to the ratchet ones for the rest of the way.
