Hi guys, i recently purchased a viewsonic VX922 everything seems fine but when displaying certain colours like a certain shade of grey (battlefield 2 log in screens) it seems random pixels will flicker white, and it seems to be in different places each time, has anyone come across this before and any ideas what causes it?

edit: i just changed my destop to black and its doing it there as well, changed it from 75hz to 70hz and it seems to have sorted it out.. the monitor supports 75hz tho, any ideas whats going on? :S

cheers
Si

could be some artefacts from the heavy overdrive application used, perhaps bringing out dithering issues a little more than would normally be seen. Are you running at 60Hz or 75Hz refresh rate?

was running at 75 but changed it to 70 and it seems ok, is that what causes it? dont remember installing any overdrive apps, or is that built into the hardware?

that was probably the cause. TFT's are designed to run optimally at 60Hz refresh rate. They can run higher but your adding extra work into the interface chip and controller which is probably where you're seeing those aretfacts from :)

it can run at 75Hz as a maximum setting, but the manufacturer recommends running at 60Hz for optimum performance :)

ok thanks :) was getting a bit worried for a bit there, brand new monitor and all  ill give it a little run at 70hz see how that goes for a bit as 60 sorta hurts my eyes a bit

it should make no difference at all, since TFT's do not actually refresh anyway in the same way that a CRT would. It's all placebo with moving from a CRT by the sounds of it. The pixels all refresh individually and only when they need to. The only reason you might want to have 75Hz selected is in fast gaming where either you see tearing or you are running with vsync on and want a higher refresh rate. 60Hz should operate better in other circumstances :)
