Flight Cancellations

Underbooked Charter flights are your best bet for a really cheap fare.

Tour Operators like, Airtours, MYtravel, Thompsons etc all need to sell as may seats as possible, an empty seat means less revenue, so they will usually sell any spares at pretty silly prices.

I have hung around in the hope of a flight all day and never got anything I fancied but that was Newcaslte so the flights were limited, the same thing again in Manchester was a different story managed to get a one way flight to Tenerife for £20 after a bit of friendly banter with the Rep at the desk.

I'd say don't go to far, long haul flights need more thought and you have less options to get back, not to mention visa issues and other such trivial matters, vacinations etc.

Good luck, and go to the biggest airport you can find that is not too far out of the way for you.

I'd be very surprised if normal scheduled airlines (such as BA, Virgin etc) ever do rock-bottom standby fares that you just turn up at the airport with your suitcase. At least as far as major airlines are concerned, it's simply not their usual way of doing business.

Managed to fly to Australia and most places around the globe on stand-by flights, though I was always high priority for those...

can you elaborate on that please?

Sounds like something I would be interested in.

Cheers.

Well my dad used to work at the company Airmiles as marketing director, you know the Nectar like company? Don't know whether it applied to all BA flights or just certain ones, but all the ones we went on obviously had stand by places. There were all sorts of peeps waiting on stand by (not just BA, Airmiles employees etc.) - Anyway, because he held a position in BA's partner company it meant that we got priority over the other people to fly stand by.

Bear in mind this is going several years back, but I don't have a clue if this is helpful at all. We flew stand-by because it was free for us IIRC. Stand by flights are usually at massively cut down prices though.
Anything else you wanna know? Probably haven't helped at all really, hehe.

What you're talking about is AD or ID tickets (agency or industry discount) which is only provided to employees of travel agents and other selected airline associated companies, the employee's own airline or employees of other airlines, and their families etc.

Unless you or a member of your family works in the airline industry, it won't work.
