I had a joystick mate, and honestly mouse and keyboard is more responsive than joystick once you learn how. You can do faster and tighter turn circles than you would with a joystick

Saitek cyborg evo stick pilot from bf1942----bf3 here, you dont need to spend mega on a silly one, for BF2 and 3. All the buttons you need, sturdy too.
only problem is oc are not seeming to keep sticks around the 50 quid mark... i bought my lasy Saitek 5 yrs ago, still use it lol, cost me 35 quid, but i really wanna update it, for a quicker and more tight feel, ill check again
i dont like the type where the throttle miles off from the stick.... like a jumbo pilot, the cyborg had the throttle under the stick itself, perfect for me
Logitech Extreme 3D Pro is my default answer to this question and for good reason.
I have tried a Thrustmaster Hotas X, Saitek Fly 5 and a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. The Logitech and Thrustmaster are quite evenly matched by the Saitek is far behind in terms of "feel". The Saitek simply feels cheap, light and wobbly in comparison to the other two and the Logitech feels exceptional and very responsive. The Saitek basically feels imprecise while the thrustmaster and logitech feel very precise.
