I just got this joystick as a gift for using with BF3 but i'd like to have a crack at a proper flight sim. I was wondering if anyone could spec me a game keeping in mind the face that i dont know squat about flying so it'd have to be very noob friendly.

Thanks

MS Flight Simulator X is surprisingly noob friendly with the default aircraft. You can do all the "missions" which walk you through getting in the air, with a pretty easy learning curve. Once you've done that, you will be able to fly the commercial jets no problem, just set up a flight plan in FSX, take off, make the plane follow GPS, then set up the ILS to make the plane bring itself in to land (sounds complicated, but really is very easy).

Rise of flight is a good WW2 one which can be very easy to difficult depending on settings and not a bad place to look

Also the Take on Helicopter demo is now on steam i see. Now i am unsure how hard/easy it is but i bet if you take it nice a smooth and setup your controller right it wont be to bad. It should look nice too since its quite new

The new Microsoft Flight should be out in a few months if you can hold off. FSX is a complete resource hog and you need a fairly beastly PC to run it well.

IL2 Series-
IL2 1942
IL2 Cliffs Of Dover (latest)

All WW2 Simulators, surprisingly realistic an fun shooting the axis down.
Incredible selection of planes, over 100.

Which one is this? i though Microsoft discontinued there flight sims ??

do you have a link ?

I have the same stick, I recommend MS Flight Sim X too, I also have some combat sims which are great but my personal experience was enjoying them much more once I had more knowledge on how to actually fly the planes properly and what all the gauges and switches do.

Flight sim X is a great way to learn that, then move over to the Combat sims IL2 1946 for example and its easier to concentrate on the weapons systems once you understand the flight basics.

Little off topic, but OP did you get the joystick working ok with BF3?

I ask because i have the same one but could not map the controls properly, so haven't used it since i got it.

Also, i got Il-s Cliffs of dover for a tenner and it is great fun.
