Flight Sims: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

IL2 1946 is brilliant, add the free ultrapack 3 and it is epic

I also bought IL2 Cliffs of Dover on special for 6.99 , its not great but it is good

DCS Black shark or DCS A10C if you want a full on simulator

Yep, the simHQ website is my 1st port of call for any sim related news. Their screenshots page is very good, but also look in the Thirdwire forum if you want to fly simpler avionic cold war jets. I have the Strikefighters 1 series and that is very good, especially with the vast range of flyable aircraft mods.

Continued community driven development currently peaks with Benchmark Sims' Falcon BMS 4.32. This is a combat study sim in the truest sense; aircraft operation, performance, avionics, ground operations, flight management, combat tactics, weapon delivery and more. Then there is the multiplayer aspect. The return on investment may end up providing entertainment measured in years not hours.
Hadn't played Falcon in years. I got fed up with the bickering between the different factions. Your post tempted me to dig out the CD and reinstall.

I'm having a trip down memory lane at the moment. What an improvement!

Thank you

Bought WoP as a means of gently getting into these sims, Is the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Joystick any good as an entry level stick? Seems decent for the price.

I had a t-flight hotas x as my first stick, decent entry level stick. The thottle and stick separate and it has twist for rudder. Also works with the ps3 if you have one.

I've just purchased X-Plane 10 (Global scenery is 70GB installation - ships on 8 DVD's). You can download a demo (fully functional but has a 10 min time out). The default scenery is impressive but everything gets even better when you install the add-ons (most are free - google x-plane scenery). Also they reckon there are over 40,000 FREE air planes available on the net. Expect a SHARP learning curve!
