Hi people.

Im looking for a decent flight simulator im not to fussed about jumbo jets and stuff id preffer something with fighter jets and the like is there any where you get missions and stuff?

I don't play a lot of flight sims, but hopefully this'll get you started :)

Back in the day I used to enjoy:

IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles - I think it's still available on some sites? I haven't seen it for a while though...

The best flight sim/space sim around is probably still X3 iirc.

SW.

I think the only version you can get now is IL-2 1946. I think it's a single release of all of the IL-2 series? Someone correct me if I'm wrong ;)

SW.

If by looks the best you mean looks dated?

Look up 'Lock On: Modern Air Combat/Flaming Cliffs'.

Tom Clancy's HAWX is not a flight simulator.

You can probably get the older releases but you are correct in saying that 1946 is the combined pack as it were. No reason to buy any other version at all.

I want something thats not anchient but the most up to date fighting sim

Lock On for now then probably.

Lock on: MAC + Flaiming cliffs expansion

Upcoming Digital combat simulator: Black shark (DCS:BS)

Originally an expansion for lomac the developers announced it as the first on a series of games based on the lomac engine, they will bring fighters out after black shark. If the detail from BS is anything to go by it will be a fantastic series for combat flight sims.

But not for many years.

I like the idea of black shark as well but the linear nature of the campaigns stops me getting too hot under the collar about it. I heard there was some degree of noddage towards a dynamic environment but nothing on the scale of Falcon. Should still be pretty cool.

1. Lock-on / + Flaming Cliffs add-on

2. Falcon 4.0 : Allied Force

3. Flight simualtor 2004/X

4. IL2 Series (Pacific Fighters is awesome imo)

Yeah IL2 - 1946 is all the earlier versions of IL2 in one handy installer

I love it to bits and its amazing using a trackir to play it.

Get yourself a copy of il2 1946 and download hyperlobby ( free) for multiplayer

Lock-On installs the insidious Starforce copy protection on your PC (despite using the removal tool my system still has after effects). If Black Shark utilises the same system, I won't be touching it.

Apart from Falcon 4, there's a relative dearth of military flight sims these days, compared to the 90's when a new one seemed to come out every couple of months.

Yup, although IIRC the very original release didn't have it.

Falcon 4: Allied Force without question.

Does it look dated? Yes. But then it is nearly 10 years old. However with the many skins, cockpit & terrain addon out there it looks pretty good.

But, NOTHING out there can come close in terms of realism. And the dynamic campaign engine is still unbeaten. I've been flying F4 since 1998 and I've never once gotten bored.

And if graphics really are that important to you, get a copy of the original Falcon 4.0 from ebay or torrent and then download and install Free Falcon (100% free). It has updated graphics (still a bit dated, only DX7 based) and the same standard of avionics as AF, with the addition of GPS guided weapons. However it is harder to get multiplayer games and it does have a few stability issues.

I was flying in my Online Wing's big quarterly Red Flag yesterday with 16 human pilots on the blue side and 4 on the red, and nothing comes close in terms of realism and sheer enjoyment. And there is no real limit on players as long as you have the CPU and bandwidth to support them.
