Flint 4 - Discussion Thread

Had mine delivered the other day and managed to get in on the super early bird plus got a 10% discount so picked it up for £207. Not really using it to its full extent but seems to run well. Only thing I’ve found is that some of the features are disabled if you have the network hardware acceleration enabled.

That's the nature of all routers that offer hardware packet acceleration vs deep packet inspection as they are two mutually exclusive functions. One doesn't unpack the data for speed and to lessen processor load, the other has to unpack the data to see what's inside it in order to log/traffic shape/filter/QoS etc. You can't have both on at the same time.

Ahh makes sense. Suppose it just means picking which feature is more important.

anyone seen a review
or been able to test simultaneous mlo is
fully functional?
as usual you can say WiFi 7 router and it doesn't
necessarily mean it has every part of WiFi 7
and true simultaneous mlo would be a big selling point
the chipset should be capable of it
but still needs the firmware/software to implement it

usually I read dong does tech but he doesn't seem
to have reviewed it yet

MLO seems to be working for me on my two WiFi 7 devices (PS5 Pro and MacBook Air).

Ah, not sure how to test that. As far as I can see it is combining all three bands in the admin panel.
yeah that's where someone like dong does tech reviews
are really useful
he actually understands the in and outs of routers
and of course part of the problem is
you probably need a client device that can accept it too
up until the flint 4 assuming it's truly doing it
am not aware of any WiFi 7 router that's fully implemented it
but manufacturers can just say WiFi 7 mlo
but not explain what actual implementation of mlo it's using
even the flint 4 webpage didn't which is a bit weird

STR MLO is a client issue more than a router issue, think the U-AirWire is the only client device that supports it so far.

thanks hadn't seen that one
as it's ubiquiti the str mlo claim is probably believable too
though as usual their stuff isn't cheap
but it's at least a start for more companies to follow with
true mlo implementation

Not overly excited at the price point of £330

Power Consumption
Without USB Load: <25W
With USB Load: <45W

Surely a bug with 45 watts with usb load? was the hdd connected to its own power outlet or was it a portable 2.5 hdd?

I was thinking it would be handy to stick a usb flash drive, shouldn't be as much since its a tiny flash stick, will see if I can find my power meter and compare on usb load.

So far great router, the menu system is as newbie friendly as it can be and everything is very simple to set up. Setting up a VPN was done in 2-3 minutes, I was thinking there would not be a menu system to set up devices to use VPN or not but clicking VPN dashboard and than the logo of your VPN provider under priority 1 brings up your devices where you can select VPN or not.

I did have an issue where my screen would not switch off despite it being set too off under system>display management, I thought there maybe a physical switch of another option but rebooting the router and its now behaving itself and switched off.

Nice to hit almost 1Gbps wifi speeds finally, and while under a VPN no less.

Agreed. I'm really happy with mine as well. Hopefully the next firmware update will fix a few of the small issues.
