Hi,

I currently have one of these and it was fitted under my carport and would only light up the drive so wouldn't really bother anyone however I'm tempted to use it over the drive especially with the thefts that are going on:

I've tried replacing the bulb before but quite frankly, it was a terrible incident. Bulbs are expensive + broke two trying to get it in :(

Does anyone know if it'd be easy and cheap enough to just replace the light part with an LED panel that would provide enough light for a normal drive without blinding the neighbours?

I've also got a cast iron old fashion light, would it be easy enough to link it to that and pop an LED bulb in?

There should not be any difficultly with re-lamping these... place one end of the lamp on the silver coloured contact, depress the spring loaded contact in using the lamp and then tuck the other end in the other side and allow the spring loaded contact to relax.

You are attempting to fit the right size lamp arn't you? that looks like a 150w fitting (although its difficult to get a sense of scale from the pictures)

Also ensure you do not touch the glass portion of the bulb when fitting. Bulbs often come with a bit of cardboard around so you can avoid touching them.

be careful with some led lights, I got the below and the light spreads everywhere! upwards and downwards, the light itsn't as "contained" as the one in OPs picture.

You can buy a complete LED unit for £30-80 which should be brighter, last longer and use less electricity so wouldn't bother replacing bits of it.

The reflectors on the LED floodlights often aren't all that. Either way, buy from ebay or TLC, save your money. The expensive ones are just cheap ones with more profit margin!
