Flooring issues - consumer rights

get a definite figure on the more expensive option then use that to agree on whatever

This. If it's a couple of hundred then it's probably worth just going for it - crap as it is to have to pay more, it's probably also the most cost effective way of getting it sorted. Obviously if we're talking 4 figures then not so clear cut.

In one room they screeded twice, the other rooms are floorboards. It’s an older house, so they aren’t in perfect condition but neither of the two times they’ve fitted it have they said it was an issue or need to be boarded.
Did they leave it long enough to dry?

Sounds like you need a new subfloor laying down before the underlay and laminate.

My bathroom floor was terrible, so I laid some MDF and screwed it down tight before laying lvt planks. It's absolutely perfect now.

Find out what all your options are...

What is the cost of the more expensive one ?? - That way you are then in an informed position.

So if he offered say 25% refund and left the floor down - how does that help you if your not happy with the flooring? I don't really understand how a partial refund helps you here if your still not happy with the finished job.

Either full refund and he takes it all away
or
You agree a compromised figure for the LVT flooring between you both.

Partial refunds just seems like a silly option as he walks away from it and your left with a floor your not happy with.

Surely if you get a full refund you would be buying another floor anyway as that was your intention in the first place.

This seems like a very reasonable offer to me and one you would normally have to push hard for as they are out of pocket.
