Just done a search and people are replying with 'turn the cable around as you must have put it in wrong' but i havn't built the pc and its years old so the cable has never been removed. I put a floppy in it yesterday and it didnt open instead it made windows freeze for a while, i waited for the light to go out (thats what your meant to do, right? before removing the floppy?) anyway waited for ages light didnt go out so just ejected the floppy. Started the pc again today and the light is still on and wont read any floppy's even ones I know work. It just says 'insert floppy into drive'

Now im not really that worried if no one can come up with a solution as I havn't used a floppy in years but the light is annoying the heck out of me but a bit of masking tape and jobs a goodun lol.

I did take the side of and make sure that all the cable were propery connected as I have been moving it around latley but they all seemed fine.

When the floppy light is on, it usually means the data cable is on the wrong way round.

Try the cable the other way round, and it'll probably work. It's worth nothing that the red line of the data cable should match out with pin 1 on the drive's connector - usually indicated by a little 1.

If the cable is connected the proper way, I would think that the floppy is faulty...and as already stated, I think the remedy would be simply to remove it (the floppy)...:)

floppy, man im probably one of the oldest guy on this forum and even i abandoned the floppy drive last year.

/still got a usb one in the reserves though.

Presuming it is found in the BIOS & it used to work & nothing has been changed, it is faulty. In case something has been changed, some floppy leads were double headed with a twist in the ribbon to one connector (one for Drive a: one for drive b: ) and some floppy drives had jumpers to set their ID. It has been a while & I can't recall the error that getting the connectors mixed up causes but if as mentioned previously the connector is the wrong way around it will cause your symptoms.

Are you lot reading the original post? OP says he's not touched the cable since the PC was built yet problem only started recently.

Sheesh....

Well spotted that man. I was gonna say something  aye PC is about 7/8 years old havn't ever touched the cable to the floppy and it shows in the bios so guess it or whatever must be cream crackered.

TBH, I just read thread title, and replied. :o

Usually when a floppy is struggling to read disks, it's time to buy a new one - if you can find a LS120 drive, buy one and enjoy!

well if you aint touyched anything its bust. lol

Well I took the hard drive out a couple of days ago, thought maybe i had disturbed something but i unplugged everything today and plugged it back in and still the same, ah well who the hell wants a floppy drive anyway!?

Just seen a few on ebay, never seen a super floppy disk before. even at 120mb IMO there still useless. ill have a hunt for a replacment.

Floppy drive is still essential i'd rather flash board and card bios on floppy than usb stick any day.

I have a USB floppy drive, and it's great for flashing bios etc. Works on all my computers (even the old ones, and the fussy servers too).

I'll never have a built in floppy disk on my computers again :)

Until you've used one, you won't see the fascination in them and just think they access floppy disks as normal.

That is, until you plug the LS-120 drive in your IDE (sic) port, and listen to it access your floppy disks VERY quickly!:D

Seeing how I have never flashed and even know what flashing the bios is, i dont think it will be missed.

I assume though that you can only use super disks with a super drive and the disks wont work on a normal 1.44mb drive.

You can use either 120mb super disks, or floppy disks. The 120mb disks won't work in another ordinary floppy drive, but the 1.44mb floppies will work in other floppy drives. Basically, you'd be buying a super quick floppy drive.

I'll try and dig mine out in a bit, and do a format and other stuff on it just to show you. The noise alone is worth it!
