We're off to Orlando in October for the 3rd time. Last time I went in 2007 I just took a couple of hundred dollars and the rest in travellers cheques. Is it just as easy to do the same again this time? Are TC's still accepted everywhere in Orlando or am I better off getting one of the pre-paid cards I keep reading about (FairFX/Caxton)?

FairFX is decent.

The card works everywhere from the Coke machine upwards.

The card is approved much faster in the US then your normal Visa debit card is in Tesco.

I went to florida 2 years ago with my GF (first time out there)

I took $2.5k in dollars (exchange rate was ace) and didnt bother about travellers cheques or anything.

Live on the edge take the cash

:)

Personally i usually take around £500 is cash (to get me started off and pay for things like the supermarket runs and food in theme parks) and use my credit cards for everything else, never once had an issue doing this.

I always just take some cash and withdraw more / use cards as needed. Not saying that is best in terms of FX risk but convenience is there.

I lived in FLA for a couple of years and used my UK bank cards all the time (as well as having a local account)
