I am going to Florida next Saturday for two weeks. Been a few times before and doing the usual theme parks, etc.

We are also driving down to Miami for a few days.

As we have said this will be the last time we go for a while, just wondering if there is anything I need to see/places to eat/drink, etc.

I have seen the everglades, swam with dolphins, seen all the parks. Haven't seen kennedy space centre but the Mrs would hate it unfortunately.

Any ideas welcome.

Key West, Fort Myers, Naples, Daytona Beach, St Augustine. You Really should go to Kennedy, Such an historic place.

Been to the Keys and Miami should fulfil our beach needs :p I do really want to go to Kennedy but I've already persuaded her to let me go to a few bars I've seen.

Personally, When I was in Miami I went to all of the "Man vs. Food" restaurants and thought they were great. It's not fine dinning but there was some awesome food on offer!

If you've got a hire car and you can both drive it, get her to drop you off at the Space Centre and then she can go shopping (there must be somewhere to shop close!) :p

Yea I've been looking at them. We are only there 3 night though.

I want to go to Joe's Stone Crab one night and she wants to go to little Havana.

Which was best?

Where are you flying into, Orlando?

Have you been to Busch Gardens?

Do you intend to visit the west coast of Florida?

East Coast ? Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Miami Beach.

West Coast ? Naples, Sanibel/Captiva Sarasota/Siesta Key.

Naples Bay Resort are renting nice 250hp Mercury deck boats for $99 for the day. Normally $400, cos you're going out of season. That is the best way to experience FL, which is getting out on the water to a secluded beach. And trust me on this. This is an amazing price.

Everything inland outside of Orlando is just ok. Mount Dora, is nice.

You're unfortunately going in what is considered the worst four months to visit FL. June, July, Aug and Sept. 10"of rain. and only 2" for all the other months of the yr. Even so, mornings are beautiful, so plan to do your fun things in the AM and you'll have a good time.

Having been just about everywhere in FL, i would say Naples and Palm Beach are my absolute favorite places, and the reason all the millionaires congregate in those two places. If upscale isn't your thing, you may consider those two places a little snobby. At least that's what other Americans say. I think everyone is friendly much more so that you'd ever expect in the UK

Cheers for that, will look into the Naples Boats.

I know about the weather :/ but we went 2 years ago at the exact same time and it only rained twice so fingers crossed. Weather shows it is getting better too.

If you are going to Miami, check out Gotham Steak at Fontainebleau, Prime One Twelve, Sushi at the Delano and my friend says Scarlett's in Hallandale is a must ;)

The optional tour of the rocket bases and launch areas is slightly more interesting, and on balance the only thing in Florida worth visiting anyway.
Haven't you ever done things together that you dislike but go along with anyway? Dump her in a shoe shop somewhere and go by yourself.

Orlando, yes.

Going to Busch for the first time, that's all the west coast we have planned.

Busch Gardens is awesome, you will enjoy if you like theme parks. Sheikra is a blast!

We have a family villa in Rotonda West, my partner and I have just got back 2 weeks ago. The weather was lovely, not too hot or humid. We were seeing 25c at night, very cool, with day times temps up to 36c.

Another shout for Sanibel, you can see the dolphins from the beach if you are lucky.

Just down the road from our house is Boca Grande, a lovely restaurant called Pink Elephant. Not cheap but superb filet mignon.

There are two large outlets on the west coast, Ellenton near Tampa and Miromar just past Fort Myers. Good for cheaper designer gear.
As well as a Westfields near Tampa.

There is Shell Factory on US41 at North Fort Myers. A strange shop but interesting purchases can be had.

Not really, she is pretty leniant and we usually end up doing what I want to do anyway, with her interests in mind (a little) but space exploration is something she really doesn't care about.

Here's the link for the boat rentals at $99

Cheers for that, looks pretty cool.

You'd be fairly mad not to go to the Kennedy Space Centre. I'm not hugely into space and my girlfriend even less so but we both thoroughly enjoyed it - it was very interesting and very well presented. It's well worth a trip, it was definately one of the better things about Florida.

Miami was very much an anticlimax.

I have seen the everglades, swam with dolphins, seen all the parks.

Kinda wondering why you are going again then? :p

Drive to Sarasota then go over the sky bridge(if you dare) towards Clearwater beach and have dinner at Frenchy's on the beach
and they have a webcam. After go the old road out of Clearwater and on the bridge you will see a shop full of old corvettes ect.

Go up to Tarpon Springs(HW19 North) and go on a fishing boat. Great food and people there.
Also have you been to the flea market in Tampa or the one in Hudson(HW19) awesome deals there.

If you want to do something very different then how about going the Field of Dreams and have a go at base ball?
http://www.fodmoviesite.com/ I loved it.
