I have a bit of a mystery going on and i'm hoping someone here can shed some light on things.
I recently upgraded to a i7 920 cpu with an asus P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard.
Once it was all set up i ran 3D mark vantage and i got a score of P12310 which was miles better than my old system and i was chuffed.
Now yesterday i installed the latest nvidia drivers 195.62 and ran 3d mark vantage again. This time i got an overall score of P9050 i was puzzled by this but looking at the breakdown of the score the GPU was virtually identical but the CPU score had dropped from 42387 to an amazingly low 8746.
I then when back to the old drivers and i soon realised this had nothing to do with the version of nvidia drivers as sometimes i would run it i would get a score back like the original and other times it would be miles down.
One thing that occurred to me was intel speedstep as i have a gadget running which tells me the clock speed and often you see it drop to 1.5ghz before going back to 2.66ghz when required, could this be causing the fluctuating benchmarks?
Well no, i disabled it so it s a steady 2.66ghz and the first time i ran the benchmark my score was back at P12080, ran it a 2nd time and down again to P9090, so why is my cpu score fluctuating so randomly?
Can someone shed some light?
