Fluctuating Vcore

Hi. On Intel CPU's, when you manually set the multiplier or vcore, the vcore doesn't fluctuate very much, but when you leave them on auto, the vcore fluctuates quite a lot, like between 0.5v to 1.3v. Now I know this is normal behaviour, my question is are you using more energy when setting manually?

yes but only a few watt's if the system is not under load

Idd theres really nothing in it, i tested it using a watt meter and it seemed to give similar results for both maybe 5 watts higher on average with fixed voltage.

I get around 85 watts idle with an offset, around 90 with a fixed, 150 ish on both for light load. Heavy load theyre using the same voltage anyway so theres no point checking that.

I dunno if running at a constant high voltage is worse or if all the powering up and down is worse from using an offset. I guess intel think its best to power up and down or they probably wouldnt have come up with the tech.

You have to use adaptive/dynamic voltage if you want the vcore to lower when windows drops the multi

How do you do that on a Gigabyte ga-z170x-gaming 7? It seems to be greyed out. Cheers.

you just change your cpu vcore to Auto, or to Normal if you wanna also set an offset(which is just below). If its all working fine and your not overclocking just leave it on auto, if your planning on overclocking then set it to normal and use the offset to adjust the voltage.
