Had a holiday in France last week, and as usual with this part of the usual I got eaten alive by the wee beasties. Where as everyone else only had one or two.

So why am I more tasty to the little gits?

Apparently some people are MUCH more tasty to mozzies than others - myself being one of them. DEET really is the only thing that does any good in my experience - it effectively makes you invisible to them.

I find that when I go to a different country, I'm a lot more susceptible to insect bites in the first week or two. I guess it takes your body that long to adapt and convince the local bugs you're not a tasty treat. When I moved out here I was eaten alive for the first week or two, now I don't even need a bug repellent in my room.

I used to use DEET based sprays/rollons etc when I went fishing and camping but a friend of mine who is in the Navy gave me a little tip - Use "Avon Skin So Soft Dry Oil Spray" the mozzies hate it. It is about £2.50 a bottle and is on special at the moment :)

I have used it a few times now and it works really well, it also wont give you skin cancer like DEET based products will.

Used in the army as well, apparently a lot better than any other actual insect repellant.

when i was on holiday with mates from uni, i was the only person in the pool, was on an inflatable bed, almost sleeping in the sun (dead relaxing) when a fly/mosquito decided to nibble me on the eyelid

damn it hurt, and i fell off my bed and swallowed a whole load of water, then coughed it up at the side of the pool

ended well though, this spanish topless girl was patting me on the back to get the water up, wobble wobble :D

i think it's to do with your own body's defences.

Some people are more allergic than others. Everyone gets bitten but on some the bites swell up. Perhaps to do with the blood type sweat smell or something.

I'm lucky they don't bite me much and when they do it doesn't swell up

In the Charente, a village called Nanteuil En-Vallee

Friend's mother is French, and she just spent a month in Nothern Brittany, beautiful weather apparently! No fly bites though...

Maybe you give off more CO2 from your skin than others? lol

Only saying that because in the Metro today, people are starting to complain about the Patio Heaters attracting more Mosquito's, and that its not the body heat etc that they are attracted to.
