Normally im up on what you can and cant take on planes but im flying back home for a weekend a week on friday and am planning to buy a bass guitar with a mate (were forming a band.....ish) and am wondering if anyone knows the best arrangement for getting it back to NI?

Normally i was just thinkin gof chcking it in as hold luggage, but would it be safe from damage in there?

Also could i get away with carrying it on as hand luggage?

Im flying with easyjet (big fanboy of them) and will email them tomorrow for the officiall response, but i was wondering if anyone else has doe this?

If it's in a good hard case I think it should be ok. I remember seeing an advert for a hard case where they threw it out of a 2nd storey window and the guitar was fine.

I had to store my instrument in the aircraft hold when there were liquid bomb scares a few years back. Think it was with easyjet too.

The whole music tour including violins, cellos etc. were absolutely fine by using hard-cased suitcases or padded instrument bags, with fragile tape wrapped around. The airport even put all our instruments on last to avoid them becoming buried in the hold (or they at least made us believe that).

Last time I was on easyjet flying to NI there was a guitarist who had his guitar in the cabin with him, in the seat next to him. The plane was pretty empty, but maybe he paid for a second seat, I'm not sure.

I have no idea, I was expecting something to do with IFR when I clicked the thread. Sorry.

Now im more interested in this than the bass guitar.....

Any cheers to everyone for the suggestions, ill get a solid case and maybe ask nicely if theres not a lot of poeple on the flight or something to take it in as hand luggage.

mmmmm BASS GUITAR mine is real nice. Which one are you getting?

I dont know, I havnt decided yet. Will be my first though so probably nothing too expensive (most my musical experence is from the flute...).

Should be good fun to learn over the summer though
