Just got my self a joystick so now I need some games to use it with :D

I remember years and years ago I played something to do with apaches on my first ever PC and it was fun so looking for something like that again.

Only requirements are that the graphics are good and its something I can get into quickly, I don't wanna have to spend hours learning how to turn the engine on and take off :(

DCS A10, you'll be up in the air in 30 seconds*

DCS A10 is one of the best simulators currently on the market... you should invest some time in it, it has to be one of the most rewarding games I've played.

*if you use ramp start

DCS A-10C is the current best sim by far :)

Instant missions will start you in the air so it's pretty quick to get started. You still need to put the time in to learn all the combat systems. Cold start is not too bad really and worth learning but the tutorials and some checklists on the DCS forums make it simple.

Perhaps Wings of Prey for slightly more accessible WW2 action? The realsim can be tuned from reasonably hardcore to more arcade style.

Hi Greg,

What joystick is it? If that is a simple one, then you can use it for WWII or WWI simulator.

I have just bought Flight Simulator X recently. It impresses me with all the settings. Also I find that running it under Windows XP is way faster than Vista, don't know about 7 becoz I don't have it. It's mine problem only but for your reference, Flight Simulator X gets you in the air almost instantly. The stock terrain however is not perfectly eye-candy.

For realism including eye-candies, you need LOCKON Platinum, I got it from Amazon UK. When you fly high up, hills and mountains looks very stereo. I can't put them in words but it looks very much like so.

If you want to fly choppers, conside Commanche 3 which is an old title but it is quite good fun.

Wings of Prey is extremely good too, it's nearly perfect with the scenery.

Check out all these titles by searching the YouTube.

It is a saitek cyborg evo I have, got it off the MM :D I thinkits a fairly basic one.
That apache one might even be a remake of the game I was thinking of! Will have to give it a try!

Get Wings of Prey or Apache Air Assult first and then branch out into more serious sims if you like it :)

Alternatively, you can get the old Razorworks Apache/Commanche V Havoc/Hokum sims for decent helicopter combat. They also feature decent dynamic campaigns with good ebb/flow of the game. Check out www.simhq.com forums for downloads of community made patches and hires textures. I believe there is also a Hind mod too.

Another cracker of an oldie flight sim is Falcon 4. Install the game, then download FreeFalcon 5 patch/mod for hires models and textures for the Falcon and a host of other jets. Again it features dynamic campaigns, so your actions can affect the course of battle.

Oooh, just remembered - get the Strike Fighters 2 series, 1950's - 1980's jet combat with a MASSIVE modding community of campaigns, jets, helicopters & landscapes. Each of the games in the series can be compatible with the other, for that What If... scenario. (eg. Fly in the Vietnam War campaign with your Harrier, F-15 or Mig 19).

Wings of Prey doesn't have the best graphics of any game I've ever played.

It is however the most aesthetically pretty game I have ever played, if you're in any way into ww2 flight it will be like a boyhood dream.
