Hey, off tomorrow on a business trip with work to one of the Offshore centres with a mate from work.

I havent flown in over 6 years im not 18 and never flown without parents (sounds od i know)

Im very nervous especially after all the stuff with flying that has happened over the past 6 years and the recent events. Its not normally like to me to get nervous but i am :(

Also anyone know the restrictions on Mobile phones/Ipods on planes? o you carry them on or should i just bring the essentials?

Thanks for reading,
B

I think they are ok now

obviously phone must be turned off and ipod off for take off and landing

I'm not sure what's to be nervous about, millions of people fly without incident every day.

Try concentrating your nervous energy into praying for a quick and painless death. :)

I'm a very nervous flyer. It's not so much the thought of the plane being in the air I think it's just because I have no control over it and the fact I get motion sick really doesn't help. I went on a 2.5 hour flight to Rome a few weeks ago and I felt like I was dying until I landed again. I was even more nervous coming home because we were told it would be a 3 hour flight!

Just tell yourself that it's the safest mode of transport. Think that there are thousands of planes in the sky and hardly ever an accident and try and concentrate on your business trip which will probably distract you. I find sitting at the window helps as there can be really nice views if the weather is just right.

the weather is always nice @ 30,000 feet :D

Have no fear about planes they have so many safety features built in :D

iPod on/off during take-off/landing has absolutely no effect on the aircraft. All it does is make unexperienced flyers/cabin crew nervous.

didn't say it did just that it is a rule on most flights :)

Got back from Zante on Sunday and despite the regulations on hand luggage no one cared. A couple from wales had 2 bottles of Metaxa in their hand luggage that they bought at a supermarket, security didn't bat an eyelid :o
Electronic devices are now okay as I sat playing on the DS all the way back and the cabin crew didn't mind.

My tip is get yourself settled and stick your seatbelt on as soon as you get on the plane. Make sure you have something good to read during the takeoff. I always get the latest Empire magazine.

I usually pick something like an interview and start reading it straight away, I totally ignore the safety talk that the stewardess does and just keep reading my magazine. By the time I've finished the article I'm usually up in the air and totally fine. Repeat as needed on landing.

You'll be totally fine by the way.

Granted, but what it does do is make it difficult for you to hear the cabin crew yelling at you to get out in the event of an emergency. Mind you the smoke and flames might give the game away...

just enjoy it! sit back and realise what a great step flight is for man.

Oh and remember the people on the plane will most likely never see you aain, therefore you can be who you want to be. wear a stupid hat, pretend to be russian or something! make a game of it with your friend.
