Hi. I've got a vaio laptop that has loads of FN keys (such as brightness and switch screens).

Is there any way to map these onto my USB keyboard? It'sjust I use a dock with the laptop screen closed, and every time I dock it I have to switch to external monitor;

windows should remember your speicific settings - my vaio shuts its display off whenever i plug my desktop monitor in, for example.

i dont know of a way to map the Fn keys - im sure its possible - but windows key + p will let you change monitor settings

If I leave it docked, it can sleep and resume and it remembers the settings. If I undock it, and then dock it while booting it forgets.

and windows+p key doesn't work for me :(, usign windwos xp sp3 with a microsoft usb keyboard.

As far as I'm aware the functions are basically the same as just using a USB keyboard with media buttons. Eg my play/pause button on my USB keyboard calls the exact same thing as the one on my laptop keyboard. Same for the other shared keys, it's just that some keys are unique to one or the other.

Fn key doesn't have a standard keycode so it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some manufacturers (eg IBM/Lenovo) provide a utility that allows emulation with an external keyboard.

welll my microsoft keyboard has loads of extra buttons, but five are just numbers 1 -5 which are customisable.

problem is they need a file to run or an .exe file. can i switch screens with just an .exe?
