Hi all,

Mrs rang me on the way home from work to say that the engine management light was lit on the dash for my 2012 MK3 focus and is obviously now constantly lit. Phoned up local garage I use but he's off until monday so can't hook it up to the diagnostic machine to see what the issue is. I've checked oil/coolant and usual basics all seem's okay, car is ticking over perfect with no loss of power. Any ideas? I'm leaning towards a sensor but I'm not great with cars. It's a 1.0 litre ecoboost if that's any help. Just wondered if there's anything else I could check or if anyone had any ideas what it could be? (I guess I'm looking at number of things ).

Thanks.

Without reading the codes you're just pointlessly guessing. If it's running ok and the fluids are fine then it's going to be safe to drive in the meantime, these things are normally just a sensor or something but speculating is going to be fairly futile

Do you have an Android device? If so you could get a cheap Bluetooth OBD2 dongle and Torque app and see what codes it gives.

Unfortunately not. The Mrs did take it a on a motorway run and it didn't appear to be any different to usual. Fingers crossed its nothing too pricey!

I've managed to access the test mode menu and recover the following error codes:

Found the codes:

DTC #01 C232_00

DTC#02 C233_00

DTC#03 C53B_81

Any ideas? I'm struggling to find a list of error codes for the MK3 focus. Thanks.

Got it to garage today (one of three I tend to use) and they hooked it up, came up with a fault on one of the sensors which he suspects is down to dodgy fuel. He said they are sensitive to it and if it detects anything the warning light pops on. Advised to me to keep an eye on it but nothing to worry about at present, light has been removed and it hasn't popped up after an good run back home. :)

Appears that it is the sensor at fault. Took it to ford who wanted £85 to just to confirm it so I've left it my local garage to double check the fault and replace it. :)

It would likely be the wiring rather than the sensor with an open circuit fault. It might have just been a dodgy pin on the connector, which when taken off and put back on, would be OK again.

I hope they tested it properly first.

I've left it with them to look at. Had to push to get it booked in today. Going to give them a few hours then call back.

The heating part of the sensor has failed. Going to cost me £180 for the part plus labour. Getting it sorted on Thursday and in the meantime sent an email off to the dealer to vent my displeasure.

Just to update the thread - I had the lambda sensor (located at the top of the engine) replaced this morning for £230 inc labour which I thought was a decent price using an original ford sensor which I got some discount on. Once the new sensor was installed he got it up on the diagnostic machine and the readings were showing as they should. All working so far but the mechanic did say this shouldn't be failing on a 12 plate focus with 34k on the clock. Glad its sorted now anyway. :)

Glad you got it sorted :)

I thought it was a lambda from what you described but obviously without diagnostics it is just guessing.

Yeah, he should me the faulty readings with the old one in and the new one, it was like night and day. Disappointed it's not lasted long but at least it was easy to diagnose. :)

geez that seems very very expensive.
whats the cost breakdown ?

I'm guessing OEM sensor is £150+ plus £50 labour.

Aftermarket Bosch sensor would have been around £70 plus labour which could be as low as £20 depending on garage.
