it won't be 4wd
the dude in charge doesn't like weight, and it needs to be profitable

to make it profitable they'd have to use the 4wd in other models. and a 4wd focus 1.6 is pointless :p

Since when was the RS going to start being profitable :p. I read Ford lost around 7k on every MK1.5 RS sold.

does no one read the article the OP posted?!

That doesn’t necessarily mean the new RS will come equipped with four-wheel-drive too, even though there’s enough room in the new Focus for it to be engineered in. Jost Capito, Ford of Europe’s newly appointed Vehicle Line Director for Performance Vehicles, will be the man in charge of developing the RS and he has a healthy dislike for adding complication to a car, especially when it might increase kerb weight.

Another consideration is that Ford is now admitting that the original Focus RS was a loss-leader, reckoning each of the 4500 examples sold cost the company around £6000. This is not something Ford will want to repeat, so Capito will have to ensure the next RS will be profitable.

Ahh. I read this article months ago so didn't bother looking over for a refresh.

Does anyone think the new RS will push down the old RS prices much?

Depends how good it is, for example the new CTR prices didn't really push old CTR prices down cos it was rubbish.

Whats the number of cylinders got to do with the number of turbos you can have? There was once a quad turbo fiat uno you know.

This is a stupid car if its going to be that highly priced and have so much power that electronics have to permanently be used to make it driveable for FWD.
 
Remember this is ford at the end of the day. Because of all the financial problems they will never go silly on a car like this. I doubt a 4wd system would fit on the standard floor pan and i can't see them having a whole new set of dies made up for such a limited run. Also the twin turbo thing just sounds like speculation to me, they can easily achieve 300bhp without having two turbos. Again more development cost there.

You need a certain velocity of exhaust gasses to spin a decent sized turbine, usually with twin turbo cars you have 3 cyls spooling each turbo.
 
I have been looking on broadspeed and for £27k, which lets face it, it will probably cost in the UK you can have (some with change):

Honda S2000
Mazda RX8 231 (now 21k new which makes then a bargain)
Evo IX or X FQ300
Impreza STI
Audi S3 which you would over the RS tbh
VW R32
BMW 130 or 135 Coupe (tad over ££)


Some of which basically make the Focus RS in the likely spec and price, well er imo cack. I can see it having some fairly high running costs and sevicing costs too, like the last Focus RS and Racing Puma etc etc.
