fog lights

You won't get very far.
I actually agreed that in post #35 after reading the online highway code.

My copy of the highway code has no reference to front fogs at all but, in all honesty it is at least 5 years old.

I'd never get nicked for it because I don't drive round on fogs unless the weather conditions make it necessary.

They're getting out of your way because they think you're an idiot because you have your fogs on without reason, and just want to be no-where near you!M
Exactly, my point is it works, i dont care what your average joe motorist who im never guna see thinks of me, aslong as he moves out of the way and thinks that then good, more for me, less for him the silly coward. Not only that, the chavy girls love them, especially as there not stuck on aftermarket jobs.

I have to admit, like Sputnik I didn't realise the highway code now specifically dissallowed the use of front fog lights in inappropriate conditions.

Given the current rules, under what circumstances would you use front fog lights? In fog heavy enough to warrent their use, you would always use dipped beams to avoid dazzle off the fog. You would thus never be able to use front fog lights. Doesn't make sense to me.

By the way, what is the difference between front fog lights and driving lights?

Andi from here asked over at 5ive-o.com. Here is the answer as to how the law stands.

That image shows the difference between fog lights and regular headlamps. Driving lights go even further forward and even less to the side than headlamps.

[edit] Just found this page that gives an even better description.

Fog lamps are supposed to be amber in color to reduce reflection back at the driver from the fog itself. Most modern fog lamps aren't, though. I myself prefer the amber ones. I get to drive in blizzard conditions and ANY white lights out the front mean you can't see **** past your front bumper due to reflection. But amber fogs mean you're still moving.......

But yeah, they seriously wind me up. Fools with foglights on.

Parasites of the roads.

Getting a bit worked up there aren't you? Parasites of the roads? No, I'd disagree there. The drink drivers, now there are some parasites for you. So are the idiots who drive without a licence & insurance. Not the folk that have a couple of extra lights on the front of their car.

Fogs don't bother me at all and since getting my current car I don't drive with them on as it does seem a little classless and un becoming of the car, I have angel eyes on all the time now ;)

What annoys me more is the shear piercing brightness of modern dipped lights with their xeon bulbs etc. I find them way too bright. Far more distracting than fogs.

And the whole flashing at people with fogs on, what do you think it is going to do? They know they are on and you flashing will not get them to turn them off, your just dazzeling everyone more then the person with fogs on.

I love my fogs, they make the general motorist think your an aggresive driver and it effects the way ppl treat you on the road...

But not necessarily in a good way. There's no more chance of me letting you out of junction just because you have your fog lights on, in fact quite the opposite.

If you happen to be following me, then you will probably get my rear fog light flashed at you a couple of times before I too get bored and leave it on. If you consider it's foggy enough to have to use your fog lights, then I'd best have my rear light on so that you can see me

There is zero chance that I'm going to pull over and let you past just because you haven't made any effort to keep up with the law. Ignorance is no defence.

I bet you pull out from a junction and block one lane when turning right too when the traffic is heavy, rather than following the road signs and giving way?

Ah Angel Eyes on a car not originally fitted with them, the only thing more tacky than fogs on a clear day ;)

Spot the fog light user...

Fog lights operate off a seperate switch and should work with dipped beam. Driving lights come on with your full beam.

Yep my little fiesta has quite a large light above the stereo nex to the heated windows buttons.

Front fogs tend not to annoy me so much, it's the rear one that does my head in, it just seems to be such a strong light that it gives me a headache!

hmm, well it was a mk1 focus. maybe it did have lights to say the front fogs were on and i just couldn't see them.
