Today I saw a Ford Focus police car belonging to Devon and Cornwall constabularly driving around the city centre in completely clear weather with...

.... his foglights on.

I just don't get it :( Why are people obsessed with foglights?

People think that the advice is to use them when visability is bellow 1000m rather than 100m.

Also car manufacturers branding them as "driving lights" so people think "i'm driving, so I need my driving lights on."

Only time I have been dazzled by fogs is some massive 4x4 up my rear on the motorway easy solution was to switch the mirror to anti dazzle.

I don't face this problem much as the Focus is quite high up so rarely get dazzled by them unless its some lorry or high up 4x4 as said above.

To be honest Fox, if anyone else was to start a thread about a police car with it's fog lights on I'm almost certain you would have something to say about the "pointless" thread!

I admit though, I agree with you though :).

Err yes they are.

They do annoy me however I have never been dazzled by them, they never appear any brighter than headlights there beam pattern is wide and short compared to the narrow and distance of headlights and they use the same wattage of bulb on most cars. Badly fitted HIDs however on the other hand have dazzled me on a few occasions.

I am curious how Merc are getting away with the fog lights coming on when turning corners on there new cars, always looks to me like one of them has a blown bulb.

Never had a problem being Dazzled when driving o when being a passenger on the road. dont have a problem with them tbh.
