Folding@Home News 17th September - 24th September 2010

Another good week for the team - collective pats on backs for all.

Been doing a lot of fiddling this week so my output is down quite considerably. Pretty much sorted now and finally back up close to full strength. Got the sub ambient watercooling sorted on what used to be the photos rig. It now has an i7 950 running at 4.4GHz on a Rampage II extreme. It's set for Bigadv and has done one and is working on another as we speak (did a few regular A3s in among it). Does Bigadv in two days giving a ppd of around 40k
Since Windows Bigadv seems to be a bit more stable than the old Bigadv, I'm running it on the gaming rig (i7 920 @ 4.0GHz) as well - currently getting about 30k on that - coupled with the GTX295 on that rig, it is currently giving about 50k

Waiting for a couple of bits to get the 920 and UD3R I took out of the photos rig up and running. If I can get a good, stable OC on that, it'll be running Bigadv too. I'll have to check on that order today. I ordered on Thursday but I think they're waiting on stock as it hasn't been sent yet. Want to get it set up soon as I'm away to work in a week.

Thanks, as always, for the news Dekez and a warm Foldy type welcome to the new members.

FOLD ON TEAM 10 :D

Edit: Just had an e-mail saying my order has been shipped so I'll get working on that tomorrow (assuming DPD don't **** up the delivery again ) :D

good to see you with positive clocking results Stan

looks like the Rampage did the trick then! ;)

It certainly helped - thanks for the recommendation. It's a great board - took a bit of getting used to the BIOS though, having used Gigabyte boards almost exclusively for the last couple of years (except for the Bloodrage in the gaming rig). Still can't understand why I can't get it stable using higher multipliers though - any BCLK above about 160 just won't play ball on multipliers above 21

Third i7 is ready for the bits arriving today. Just need to slot in the RAM, fit the CPU block, fill up with water and leak test, then it's ready to fire up. The old BFG 8800GTX OC2 is going in there - I've had that card for 3 1/2 years (checked my previous orders and it was bought for £432.68 on 4/04/07), it's Folded for most of that time and it's still going strong - love it to bits.

Once that rig is up and running, I'll have 3 watercooled i7s Folding - hopefully all on Bigadv

Should have kept my big mouth shut. DPD have managed to **** it up again  That's three times in the last two weeks. I've sent an e-mail of complaint to them and a webnote to OcUK about it.

I'm bloody fed up with DPD. They seem to be completely incapable of making a delivery in my area. I've had problems in the past with them too. Since I moved here 3 1/2 years ago, I reckon more than half of the deliveries I have had from them have been ****ed up in one way or another (they actually managed to deliver to the wrong number in the wrong street once ).

.... and, breathe.

@ frozennova.
Current output if both i7s have Bigadv WUs is around 90k ppd. I'm hoping to get about 30-35k from the third i7 + 8800GTX (If I ever get the parts delivered). Total with all i7s on Bigadv could be as high as 120-125k ppd.
If all i7s get P6701/6702 WUs at the same time, output could be as low as 65k ppd. I won't be getting any Fermis for the moment - they impact too much on CPU Folding for my liking. I may see if I can pick up some more 295s when my bank balance recovers from this latest spending spree.

Im down for the next two days due to cooked VRMs on my GA-MA78LMT-S2

Heck a £55 board shouldnt be pushed for 4ghz clocks on a quad as I now know
