Thats it need to see what i can get for around 1.5k, not interested in second hand either.

Noticed Asus do some workstation boards with 4 gpu slots and they can use an i3 cpu, that would be cheaper.

It will be a month or so away before i have the money, so just getting ideas first. Only reason the budget is so high is it will be running in work so no electric to pay for.
 
Quad CPU rig
4 x 12 core opterons @ £200 a pop = £800K
4 socket G34 mobo @ £630
16 x DDR3 SIMM @ £62
Coolers & bits and bobs @ £200
Total £1892 inc VAT

Avg PPD 400K
PPD/£ = 211.42

Quad GPU rig
i7-3770K @ £270
Asus P8B WS ( takes 4 dual slot cards) £160
Patriot 16GB DDR3 kit £79
4 x GTX660Ti @ £200 each = £800
Bits & bobs @ £100
Total £1409

PPD = 30 (cpu) + 20 x4 (GPU's) = 110K PPD

PPD\£ = 78

If QRB comes back for GPU's the 660Ti was getting just over 80K so 30+(80x4)= 350K PPD

That puts the PPD\£ up to 248\$ for the GPU rig, but then there are bigger bigadv for multi core cpu's that give up to 500K PPD and then the whole thing swings the other way again :)

Thanks these will go in an X9QRi if the company I paid ever gets round to sending it (sure I posted this last night must have not hit the submit )

Two of the opteron rigs must go I will try and keep the third but not sure yet.
 
Yo, been a while since I did any folding for OcUK, early last year to be precise.

Surprised I'm still on the leaderboard at all, what have you slackers been up to? :D

So, anyway - back to folding on my home PC and a couple of VM images - should give me about 80k PPD. It's been a while so you'll need to remind me - at the moment I'm doing SMP on all clients but will move onto Bigadv after I've got 10 WUs in to get the bonus (I've assumed it has to be recent work units or can I run bigadv now seeing as I'd already folded a while back???)

Anyway, watch out to those ahead of me - except those with massive PPD - last time I checked Ba was on about 500k PPD and Biffa on about 400k PPD - what monsters have you got now? :)
 
No you can't restart folding now. :eek: I was looking forward to an eviction in a couple of months time but with that PPD prediction, the pipe dream has just gone up in smoke.

Hi Delboy, nice to see you back! :)

Need at least dual overclocked Hex core Xeons or quad 8 core Opterons to get bigadv now, and only on Linux, they pushed through some changes in target times which means that the "old" way on i7's just won't work anymore. :(
 
Ordered myself one of those power meters, before i start leaving it on for any length of time i want to see what its going to cost.
 
Anyone know if there is a way of disabling auto start on the work within the client, i want it so i can start the client and then manually choose which work to do. For instance at night i would rather not be gpu folding as its noisy. I know you can pause or stop work but then its already downloaded the work unit.
