Folding@Home News 22nd - 29th December

Managed to by-pass the blown connection on the PSU.......short term solution (and a bit dubious at best).

Hopefully, I'll get RMA confirmation tomorrow and get it shipped of for repair/replacement.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with the PSU loudbob :(

I've got every thing back up and running again now after my break for Christmas and new years, annoyingly I can't get one 460 to fold for some reason though, it just says error when starting folding core .

Thanks for the sympathy - PSU gets collected on Thursday for repair/replacement. Have been informed that they currently have a 3 to 5 day RMA turnaround.........will wait and see.

So, looks like you'll have at least a week to gain some ground on me as I'll be restricted to just two 2600k's @ 4.8GHz.

And I hope you get your 460 sorted :)

Arghh, something seems to have gone awry with my output which had been climbing towards the 30,000 PPD mark and suddenly has dropped to under 10,000 :( The client seems to be chugging away but it seems to be taking ages to complete even 4000 pointer WUs. Can't see anything that is eating performance

Mine done that this morning. Had to reboot to fix it.

42k down to 3 :( even tho the client was at 100%

I had the same thing as you guys yesterday! Sitting at around 4k PPD for the entire work unit, with a TPF of something like 6 and a half minutes! Restarting the pc/client didn't change it, just had to wait it out :(

Ah so that's why you've dropped behind me ;)

After seeing how close you are to me I've just ordered another 2600k and mobo. Have everything else needed inc ram.

:D

Loudbob did you have the 8 pin molex plugged into the mobo? You can't push that much power through the 24 pin, had the same problem with my rev 1 p6tw7 along with some others at the time with various boards when we we're pushing multi gpu rigs

Had the 24 pin connector plugged in, along with 2 x 8 pin connectors and 2 x 4 pin connectors (the ones for the old style hdd's and cd drives) - was on the Asus RE3 Board.

I have just dismantled it all and found what looks to be the source of the problem - the 24 pin connector was plugged into the MB via a 24 pin extender cable and one of the wires on the extender cable had come loose from the connection socket. So I guess too much power was being drawwn through the wire that blew.

Anyways, the PSU is getting collected tommorrow - so hopefully I'll have a replacement by end of next week (fingers crossed).

Just checked the stats - and mine seem to be an inflated 380K ppd - knocking on your door with that average (short lived as it will be) :D

Gonna be cold and quiet in my room for a change :(

Trying to keep dan away ;)

Resulted in some ghetto modding. The fan was bust :D

Gives 7k PPD. 8800 GTS

Re the extender, sounds like probable cause, good luck with the RMA.

Nice output, I'm down for the count this week, bedridden and weak as a kitten with some bug, and both my big rigs have been out of action with issues of an unknown hard to diagnose nature :( unfortunately that very probably means big money.
