Folding@home news 28th Feb - 7th Mar 2013

I checked mine expecting no more than 8kW daily, not running anything that would explain this high use. This PC in sig uses 550W max and 3570k uses 125W, probably my washer/dryer then ;)

I think we all know who here has the highest electric usage :D

Dunno..

My lectric usage:

December: 2529.20 kWh

January: 2597.16 kWh

Which equates to around 85 kWh per day :O

However....

February: 2240.56 kWh

Which equates to around 80 kWh

Question Time:

I'm going to be removing the GPU's from two of my rigs - leaving just the CPU's to fold (2 x 3770K's)

Would I be better off changing to Ubuntu?

If so, which version and what folding client?

Thanks

I have two Ubuntu rigs, one running 10.something desktop and one running 12.10 Server.

For me all the folding stuff is done in the console anyway so using server worked better for me.

Both are running 6.34 client not 7.x

There is a great thread over at [H]ardforum on all things Ubuntu, its mainly setup for people doing bigadv but the basic steps are the same for

Yay, I've finally entered the top 20 producers. :D

Be a while before a dedicated folding rig is done, i just spent all the money on some new mountain bike forks. Going to just save for a 2700k, some memory, psu and case and use that with a gtx460, then add some bigger gpu at a later date.

Little update... My order for a MSI GTX 660Ti Power Edition was cancelled due to bad service from elsewhere which I know not to go into.

I checked good old OcUK and the price has increased from £259.99 to £279.95 which is only £10 off from MSI GeForce GTX 670 OC. For that reason I'll have to await a good price drop to be able to justify the outlay. A mate did say 'why not get a GTX 660 non-Ti' such as this Asus GTX 660 DirectCU II OC on offer - is the PPD roughly the same? Thanks :)
