Folding@home news 7th - 14th Feb 2013

Had a day off yesterday tried to get the gtx580 to play nice on the sr-2 with the two 590s but it wasn't happening. No idea why but its unstable as sin! Even tried it with the GPUs on a second psu .

Ordered another 580 from the mm and have plans to get the second sr-2 early next month.

blimey, is that 2 x 590 and soon to be 2 x 580? , and 2 sr2's? that's got to be some serious computing power.

(i also noticed voicon is pulling away with his increased ppd again )

baba , i noticed over on extreme overclocking that your details arnt updating with your newly added hardware , still showing what you was with one pc set up

My PPD is going to drop slightly, just bought 3 monitors form OcUK to start doing a bit more gaming so that rig won't be crunching while I'm playing :)

whos kosh ocuk? hes new and producing 92'000 ppd :o

Warm welcome to Team OcUK Kosh :)

Full steam ahead... he's going to overtake me in 5 weeks too at this rate ;) Kosh is running 21 clients so no wonder he is doing 108k PPD average, tops of 186k daily - double points of everything I'm doing. It ranks him 7th currently in OcUK of top producers and now stepping on the toes of Bigstan which means we overtake AnandTech in just under 4 weeks!

Apparently if he finds a PC idling, it becomes part of his Folding farm :p

some body you know or work with or something?

as soon as biffas' ppd and baba get back upto what they should be at over 3 million ppd for ocuk , isnt baba running 3 x 4p systems now?

soon be stomping a couple of teams in no time,

A quick PARP to Senture. Time to start clearing out that cell :D

Do the top 20 cells get to see daylight and fresh air?
If I remember correctly, cell 50 is the first one above ground but 40 may be the first that's clear of the mott. From a very old post by rich99millions, I believe.

Anyone else stuck on 8043 work units for the GPU?

And why are my GPU's showing up as Uniprocessor?

This carries on much longer and I'll go try find some little green men.....

I've just got one. Shockingly poor PPD. On the 762* WUS, I get >40k on my 670s. I thought the 807* WUs were bad at ~28K but this 8043 is at <17K (admittedly it's on my slowest card but it's only about 3% slower).

Sorry but not so many PC's. Was testing different installations (Uni, SMP, GPU). Doing a bit of boinc now, may return to folding later.

I'm off to work on Tuesday for a month. Anyone from the old days may well remember that that's when things tend to start going wrong for me. Machines that worked flawlessly for weeks would tend to die within hours of me leaving, when I was in no position to do anything about it. We'll see how it goes this time. I've done everything I can to allow me to sort things. I've set up an HFM webpage to monitor things and Teamviewer on the Folding rig so I can fiddle with stuff if need be.

Well, some things never change. I left home on Wednesday at 09:00 (my flight was cancelled on Tuesday) with everything having been working perfectly for about a fortnight. I got to the rig at 12:00 local time (10:00 UK time) on Thursday and checked the HFM page and something looked amiss so I logged into the machine with Teamviewer and, for some reason, 2 of the 670s were running at 700MHz and the other was at about 300MHz. I have no idea what happened but a quick reboot got everything back as it should be.

It never ceases to amaze me how this happens. It's as if the damn things are self-aware and conspire to **** me up as soon as my back is turned. Well, thanks to Teamviewer, I've foiled them this time :p

Having taken out Senture I now have the last active folder in my sights that I've got a hope of catching up here in these lofty cells, so I'll make the most of this:

PARP to Petriodet :D

I'll have that cell for a around a couple of months according to EoC stats. But the real challenge, longer term is to stay in the top 20 cells. They are much nicer than the dungeons below.
