Ok just got a reply about my 9800GT i sent for RMA, the company found it to be faulty as i expected :cool:

I've been offered a newer 9800GT with a HDMI and DVI out,
the guy said at the end of email would that be OK for me ?

Should i ask if i could swap it for a different card for the same value i brought it ?
or get my money back ? or just say yes and sell it ?
It sounds like he's open to offers, but his English wasn't great tbh and i thought, i was bad at spelling and grammar lol :p
 
Is this with the retailer or with the manufacturer?

I'd verify the warranty length of the replacement card, ie if it continues the old card or starts a fresh year etc.
 
It's with the retailer, good point about the warranty Speed i didn't think about that :)

It cost me £75.98 + £6 for P&P which i brought in May last year so around 8 months old.

They have a GTS250 for £64 on their website so might ask about swapping with that, i don't think they'd give me a GTS450 frozennova :rolleyes: seeing as there around £80-£110 atm

Has anyone ever used passive watercooling for a folding rig? I'm considering one of those cape cora radiators.
 
I'd though about both cape cora tubes and a reserator but the cape cora tubes are dammed expensive and a reserator doesn't cool well enough for my rig
 
Yes, sorry! :p at the moment a Q6600 and a 260, possibly later an i7 doing big adv (no gpu).

They are currently cooled by a single RS240 squeezed in the front of a antec 902, but it is quite loud and I have loads of space under my desk were I could mount something bigger external.

edit: They don't seem that expensive compared to the bigger standard radiators, I've seen the Cape Cora HF 642 for £63.52 which seems quite resonable (unless you need like 2 or 3 of them to cool a folding rig)

im sure ive seen someone in the MM selling a thermochill PA 120.4 for £55 http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18230608
im sure you may be able to strike a deal at £40 -£45

Edit: as for output mines should hopefully nearly double now i have my second sytem running again to some degree.
it just needs a fresh windows install and all should be fine.
however the ppd from hmf depending on WU's has me between 41k and 48k
compared to my previous 26k ppd is a good omen
a liottle overclocking if possible with current hardware should see me 50k ppd plus

However im still trying worj out how a 481ppd unit folded on a quad core only scores a 1000 points less than when the same unit id run on a hex core amd system
the average time for the quad core is 8:21 TPF where as the hex core is running at 4:45 tpf
i would have thought a 6 hour differnece in completion would have earned a better bounus.

Thanks Sir-Les, that is an option, I'm not sure if that with 4 fans attached would be any quieter than my current set up though.
 
Or the PA120.4 but with no fans (or 800rpm fans)

Q6600 are very hot @ load, you need a lot of tubes - 4-6 maybe, with another 2-4 for the gpu. (same loop is fine)

Passive rads (the finned tube type) must be mounted vertically, would be rubish under a desk.

My PA120.3 doesn't have any fans and it cools my OC'ed 460 and E8200.
Must be in the roof of a case - or cut into desk top or between rear of desk and wall.
 
Are the 460 and E8200 folding as well? That is quite impressive, I didn't realise rads could be used without fans. I guess I could give it a try and add fans if it couldn't handle it. There is space at the end of the desk where it would fit and have good airflow.

The desk is about 80cm high though and the pump would be on the floor (18W Laing DDC) would it be able to pump up to the radiator?

Where is the case?
or is the pump in the case - if it is, mount the pump as high up as you can.
top optical bays or under the desk (soft mount) would be ideal

I use my rad in a semi passive way - there is air flow through it from my single case fan.
Just enough to acheive assisted stack ventilation with is 200-400% better that still air (depending on ambient temp).

A SR1 rad would be best for semi-passive but PA are all most as good.
Or you could use radient panels, they don't need any air flow (but that will cost you more)

Unless you know someone in london with a few to spare ;)
and you have some time for a little project

The pump is on the floor of the case which is on the floor, but good point, there is no reason I couldn't mount it higher externally.

What are radient panels? Are they those the skirting board heating systems? I'm not sure I have the skills or time for that level of project but thanks :)

SR1 or PA look like the best options then.
