Folding@Home on PS3 - Also news on the GPU client

Damm you Damm you all :p

I just found the Article and i came in running to tell you lot about it but it seems there have been atleast 2 threads already :p

Well i did that too and i wasn't Austraaaalian last time i checked... :)

A question about the gpu client now... i wonder if one could have an nvidia card and an ati card in an sli/crosssfire system (obviously not working in sli or crossfire) and the ati card could be a dedicated folding card and the nvidia one could be the main graphics card. Its just i really hate ati drivers.

Nothing to stop you having multiple graphics card in a box. One of our boxes at work as 2 cards in it to drive the 5 monitors we need (different monitoring screens on each), along side the integrated gfx card.

im pretty sure that isnt possible

why ?

I have a PC that has an AGP NVidia card, and two PCI cards with different chipsets, one's a powerVR I think and the other's another ancient thing but all three cards work (tripple head for the win ). I can't see whay you couldn't leave two without monitors and crunch on them instead. These new NVidia boards have 4 full speed PCI-E slots don't they?

Nowt wrong with ATi drivers. Spend 10 minutes tweaking and you wouldn't know they are there!

I've heard of people running one NVidia and one ATi card in the same machine, as I recall it was a PCI-E Nvidia card for gaming and an AGP ATi All-in-Wonder mainly for use as a TV card - this was in an Asrock Dual SATA and the cards worked fine together though you did have to install things in a fairly specific order

What will the PS3 be like when it folds? If what they say is true about it having how ever many Flops then should that meen its good?

Thats sort of what I asked in the other thread that popped up then got locked just after I posted. How are the cell processors going to compare to a conroe? I can see it now

Friend: why have you got 7 PS3's?
You: erm...

:p

yes u can run 1 pci-e card and as many pci cards as you want but not 2 different pci-express cards, and for the 1 agp and 1 pci-e card im pretty doubtful, ive heard ofpeople trying that and it not working

Wowsers, look at that. I step away from the Internets for one day so I can move to a new house and see what I miss? ;)

I hope it'll run on my X850. :D
I heard it only works on X1K series.

Recent ATi cars are looking good, so with this as well i might be tempted...

When the gpu client does arrive i think a nice gh thread appealing for more folders might have some good results. ;)

Just imagine the output from my new gaming rig.

Core 2 Duo E6600, overclocked to hell and back and similarly overclocked crossfire X1950s :D

Is it just me or is this a pretty chip :o

It is a nice chip, but it has the most repulsive yeilds apparently, something like 20% even with the 7th (or is it 8th) core disabled allowing for problems with one core. God knows how sony will launch the ps3 in november. I suspect they won't hard launch it, only paper launch it and it won't be readily available for quite some time. Having said that, they may supprise us...

When you say Yeild, are you referring to Die's < Chip's > per 300mm wafer that perfom as expected ? We've < un-named company :-) > been working with IBM for many months on several projects directly relating to yeild.

I'd be interested reading the data on the acutal yeild per wafer / chip. If you have the links can you post them ??
